Pre deployment work-ups for the cruise are an integral part of pre- paring ourselves both materially and mentally for the rigors imposed upon us while deployed. For seven months CMarch through September, 1997l. the Seattle and its crew practiced all facets of our mission capabilities. Honing our skills by working with other United States services and con- tingents from our NATO allies. Working day and night, practicing combat and humanitarian sce- narios. Pushing our personnel and our equipment to the outer limits we proved that we were more than ready for anything that could be thrown at us while we represented our country halfway around the world during the upcoming deployment. In addition to lots of time underway for the Joint Task Force Exercises, we spent time at the fuel pier at Roosevelt Roads Naval Station in Puerto Rico.
