IH-Z t cl , i Weapons division consists of 25 hard working, proud and dedicated personnel, led by a senior Warrant Officer commonly referred to as Gunner . Half of the division is made up of non designated seaman, with the remainder being rated Gunner's Mate Guns IGMGJ. The Gunner's Mate rating was established in 1797. Since the Gunner's Mate rating was established, weapons of war have become highly sophisticated and advanced. Safety in handling and storing of explosives has remained the paramount goal throughout naval history. The strict safety rules which Gunner's Mates live by today are all written in blood and practiced ona daily basis. Aboard SEATTLE Bullets are an important part of our mission. Weapons division personnel handle over 3,000 tons of ordnance and provide safe and secure stowage in , over 42 magazines throughout the ship. The GMG's also provide self defense protection for the ship by manning 4.50 Cal. machine gun mounts, 2M6O machine guns, 2-Stinger missile mounts, and a variety of other small weapons. They are highly trained and skilled in ordnance handling and stowage, maintenance of magazine sprinkler systems, ammunition accounting, and the use of ordnanCC handling equipment. All in all, this handful of dynamite men in WeapoHS division function as a team and meet or exceed all tasking for ammunition as directed by our Fleet Commanders. 011.21 day to day basis, the Can do spirit in Weapons division 15 among SEAT1'LE's best. xi
