LANGUAGE ARTS, one of the largest departments, helps Seaman students learn the correct techniques of communication through courses in English speech, drama, journalism, yearbook, and debate. Most employers believe that speaking and writing are leading requirements for success, thus, emphasis is put on these areas of language To aid the instructors, the Seaman language arts department purchased new books, a tape recorder, a record player, and literary records. A four-weeks unit of indepen- dent study was carried out in the senior college preparatory classes by a small group of students who prepared lessons in the humanities, using the library's new set of GREAT BOOKS OF THE WESTERN WORLD. 17
