But now to them a new game calls, The players are leaving; a few tears fall. As work on the first rule began long ago, They learned their part--some fast, some slow. These players were strangers, they had never met. The game made them friends, never to forget. The next rules were harder, buttrying each day As the game progressed to see their way. Games had instructors; they turned to them now, They pointed the way, and they showed them how. With each set of rules, begun with eager hearts, To make a success through the difficult parts; And to master these, as the friendships grew, Not many more rules, they'll soon be through. And now comes the time when they must leave, To go to the reward that they shall receive; As they turn around, and go on their way, Let us utter a prayer for each every day. It is recorded that in the school year of nineteen hundred and sixty-two - sixty-three, local inhabitants numbering one hundred and four embarked upon a very long journey. For eight years the group had been in solemn preparation for this glorious trip. The destiny: a beautiful and prosperous land called Education and Opportunity , In order to reach this favored place, each person must have successfully passed through another challenging area called Seagrove High School , Due to their youth, the travelers who first set out were called freshmen , Inscribed upon tablets of stone, evidence is found of their accomplishments that year: SEPT. - The beginning of a great trip. OCT. - Earl King elected as leader of expedition. NOV. - Three freshmen participate in athletics, DEC, - Yule season marked by party. JAN. - First mid-term exams are experienced. FEB, - Washington, Lincoln, and several freshmen celebrate birthdays, MARCH - Great Expectations poses no barrier to group. APRIL - General science, math, and physical education are soon to be left behind. MAY - One year successfully completed. It came to pass that only eighty-eight travelers survived that first year, Those who did remain steadfast were called “soph- omores , for they were indeed wiser, During the year of nineteen hundred and sixty-three - sixty-four, several events were recorded: SEPT, - Sandra Auman chosen as president. OCT. - Sports events include eighteen class members. NOV. - Three sophomores make Beta Club. DEC, - Christmas social is highlight of holidays. JAN. - Romeo and Juliet, and Mr. Watkins. FEB, - Class party, Be My Valentine”. MARCH - Three sophomores become bus drivers, APRIL - Sophomores are part of new track team. MAY - Second year comes to an end, When the year of nineteen hundred and sixty-four - sixty-five came around, only seventy-six w ere left in the band of travelers, Having come much closer to their goal they were then given the name “juniors”. At this point, it is written that there were a number of significant occurrences: SEPT, - Leon McCaskill chosen as new leader. OCT. - Science students visit State College. NOV, - Eight juniors tapped into Beta Club. DEC, - Juniors observe Christmas with party. JAN, - Seagrove's brickmasonery class begins. FEB, - Class rings are ordered. MARCH - All right, folks! --Mrs. Kemp. APRIL - Good Gracious, Grandma!, class play. MAY - Junior - Senior Prom, Song in my Heart . Nineteen hundred and sixty-five - sixty-six camesurprisingly early, bringing with it an exciting closeness to the mutual goal of the travelers. For this reason, they were called seniors , Having lost some and gained a few, the merry group numbered seventy- four. During the final steps of the great journey, many notable things took place: SEPT. - Doyle Allen elected as president. OCT. - Senior play, Keep Moving. NOV. - Class mascots chosen, DEC, - Judy Copple elected Homecoming Queen. JAN == you people beiter get quiet!” =-Mrs. Tillman: FEB, - Caps and gowns are ordered, MARCH - Most college - minded seniors now accepted by favorite school, APRIL - Class of '66 honored at Junior - Senior. MAY - The journey is over; farewell Seagrove! At last the brilliant boundaries of the great land were reached, The tired but happy travelers had not learned all there is to be known, but what they had experienced made them better people. As citizens of the shining land of Education and Opportunity, they were given the chance to fulfill their hearts’ desires. Ana of course, there is for the more adventuresome traveler, a golden road which leads to the glory of Higher Education, IN HONOR During the freshman year of the class of ‘66, Newman Beane became ill and was unable to return to school. A victim of rheumatic fever, resulting conditions have made it impossible for Newman to continue his education. We, the seniors of 1966, wish to honor this former classmate.
