MR. ROBERT RICE was a new teacher at SHS this year. He was graduated from Colorado State College of Edu- cation at Greeley. He sponsors the Seventh Grade and teaches English in the Seventh Grade. Speech is taught to every high school student when he is a iunior. l-le learns the qualities at a good speaker and how to teel at ease in tront at an audience. Standing position. gestures, tacial ex- pressions, rate ot speed and enunciation are some ot the things emphasized in Speech. The students give short tallcs on assigned subiects. To learn how to use body gestures and 'Facial expressions, students give pantomimes in groups ot two or three. Also during high school, American and English literature is studied. Prose and poetry by tamous American and English authors is read and learned. ln the iunior and senior years, students read and memorize works ot Shalce- speare. MRS. MURIEL SIEVER teaches both Social Studies and English in the Eighth Grade. She keeps a bulletin board in her room that displays pjo tures and clippings that correspond with the units her social studies classes study. She also sponsors the Junior Class. MRS. PHYLLIS MILLER was graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University and was a new member of the SHS taculty this year. She teaches Seventh Grade English and Eighth Grade reading and is a sponsor ot the Eighth Grade. 0 o Blaine Spurgeon aims her broom caretully at Dave Evans and Dave Bartoot as they participate in a pantomime in speech class.

MRS. ESTHER HAMON teaches senior English and Eighth Grade English and is an Eighth Grade sponsor. She covers English literature and gram- mar in her classes. Her duties as Scotts Bluff County chairman of Dem- ocratic Women keep her busy out- side of school. MR. RAY FRAKES prepares his sen- iors for college by having them learn the correct Way to write a theme, study works of Shakespeare, learn the spelling and meanings ot new vocabulary Words and study all rules for good grammar. He is head sponsor of the Junior Class. MISS PHYLLIS SHAUL teaches Eng- lish in grades nine and ten and is a sponsor of Teen Queens. Her stu- dents learn the correct rules of punctuation, capitalization and word usage that are essential for good English. She emphasizes the importance of spelling and vocab- ulary. Her classes spend one day visiting the public library learning how to use the card catalogue and how to find books and magazines. She is head sponsor of the Freshman Class. MRS. LOIS OLSSON is the president of the American Association of Uni- versity Women which keeps her busy besides teaching her morning classes of eighth and ninth grade English. She is one of the Teen Queens spon- sors.

MR. DOUG CHAPPELL can usually be found standing at the blackboard with a piece of chalk in one hand and an eraser in the other, explain- ing a math problem. He teaches ad- vanced algebra and math and is head sponsor of Key Club. He is also reserve basketball coach. MISS ADA WINANS is the head sponsor of Nike and is the president of the local Business and Professional Women's Club, which sponsors Nike. She gives her students ample knowl- edge of the use of angles, squares and triangles in her Plane Geometry course. MR. ROBERT WILSON teaches ad- vanced math, Algebra l and refresh- er math. He is line coach for the football team and assistant coach for track and also sponsors S Club. He can usually be found cracking a ioke in front of any of his math classes. Mathematics Courses Stimulate the Thinking MR. CHARLES SNOCKER is usually seen in his algebra class, leaning back in his chair relating some inci- dent that has happened to him on his way to school. He teaches Alge- bra I and lll and is a sponsor of Hi-Y. MR. HARLAN BLOME teaches first year algebra, Seventh Grade math and Physical Science. He is a sponsor of the Senior Class. His algebra stu- dents learn how to solve algebra equations and word problems. MR. HOWARD HOHNSTEIN was graduated from Kearney State Teach- ers College and was a new teacher at SHS this year. He teaches math in the seventh and ninth grades and sponsors the Sophomore Class and Hi-Y.
