The' upper area of the shield, called the chief, commemorates Rear Admiral Norman Scott, the shipis namesake. For his dauntless initiative, inspiring leadership and judicious foresight in the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, the Medal of Honor was awarded posthumously to Admiral Scott. It is 'represented on the crest as a light blue area with tive silver stars suggestive of the Medal of Honor. The background color of the lower of the shield is red, the color traditionally associated with action and danger. The crossed naval ofEcer's sword and naval enlisted cutlass refer to the dauntless courage and contributions of the men and officers who served under Admiral Scott's leadership, and to those who now continue that tradition serving in the Guided Missile Destroyer SCOTT KDDG-9951 The Ship's Motto, UAUXILIUM AB ALTO, or Help From on High exemplifies the strong devotion to God, Honor and Country that characterized Admiral Scott's naval career, and now reminds us that no SCOTT sailor stands alone. cnuuse Boon oFFicE 1 - 1 tony n , t COMPANY 'm 'dak ' 20' N I lk VA 23502 Marcel M USA i fs mv' -.35 S Walaa'?fQc'aqah ,,.-- ' , ' .
