The little town of Trochate stands on a mountain top in Sweden. It can
be reached only by a cog railroad up the mountain side. At the station at the
foot of the mountain is a sign which reads: "You will find at Trochatc good
bread and meat and wine; but if you want a good time, you will have to
bring it With you."
We sincerely hope you are "taking, with you from Scicnccvillc High some
qualities which will aid you to be successful and to achieve a measure of
happiness. There are many qualities, of course, which go to make a satis-
factory pattern for living. Each pattern is unique, having the emphasis
placed upon different qualities, or perhaps having some quality which is absent
in anotheris pattern.
Wc hopc you have made a few friends who will keep intact the bonds of
friendship for many years; that you have developed a capacity for friend-
ship-giving the soul healing power of comfort, aid. and understanding-
which will enable you to make new friends along the way.
XVe hope that you have caught a glimpse of that stem virtue of courage
that leads men to face without Hinching whatever lies before and that makes
men keep on no matter how hard or discouraging the way.
We hope you have come to feel a responsibility for preserving and dc-

of our problems by the process of Hevolution" rather than "revolution?
The world is Calling you to come
To lift the banner high,
We would not bid you stay the drum
Or lag behind and sigh.

Let nothing you betray!
You cannet fail to climb the steep
To catch some shining ray.
eW. L. Riehey,
l appreciate this opportunity afforded me by the Staff of the Silhouette
to congratulate each member of the Class of 1941 upon their successful
Completion of the prescribed work of the Public Schools. The past twelve
years have provided you the opportunity to gain the rudiments of 2m educa-
tion; to intelligently interpret your heritage from the past; and. by intro-
spection, to form an outline of the role you may best play in the continuous
drama of life which lies before you.
We lX'liCVe that you have acquired some knowledge and formed Ilt least
the beginning of :1 philosophy of life which may assist you in adjusting your-
self to :1 changing World; where the very foundations of our civilization are
qualiing with the impact of :1 tremendous upheaval that is rocking the modern
linzmeizll, political. social and spiritual worlds. The world is in need of sane,
industrious, honest, patriotic men and Women who will meet uucringiug the
facts of life, whether this nation he at peace or war. Men and women who
would rather stand erect, and face death if necessary, than on bended knee
pay obeiszmce to 2m autocratic despot.
The classes immediately preceeding you have faced unemployment and
stagnation. Conditions have changed. You are facing 21 world crisis where
there is an urgent Work for all. Your current world is making history at a
frenzied pace. You are, asked to leave the sidelines and join the actors on the
stage. You are facing the times with health, knowledge and the exuberance
of youth. You will meet the Challenge with leads up and 21 burning realization
HYou are living, you are dwelling.
In 11 grand and awful time.
In an age, on ages telling,
To be llvmg is sublimefy
