Advertisements Cover design by Donna Bost and Joan Sprowls Message From the Superintendent of Schools Our best wishes for a future richly endowed with success and happiness go out to every member of the class of I964. It is well to keep in mind that these re- wards will be based on integrity, industry, and a keen sense of civic duty. Your Alma Mater will always be proud of its alumni. Keep a warm spot in your heart for the school ' that sought so earnestly to prepare you for the many tasks that lie ahead. As the years unfold, we suggest that you remem- ber the words of Aristotle who said, lt is by education I learn to do by choice, what other men do by the constraint of fear. Paul S. Hartrcnft . 5:41 ww- Taday patience, understanding, and confidence are necessary attri- butes for a teacher. They are not only needed in the classroom but also outside the realm of education so that a teacher can help the student to solve the personal problems which arise every day. Patience is necessary because students are human beings. They are perplexed and confused by the world in which they live. Students are be- coming young adults, but they are confused and bewildered. The hopes and aspirations of the future are dawning, but they need assistance to attain them. Patience is needed to assist the student and make him under- stand that he is not alone. Understanding is necessary because the student is alone. Becoming an adult isn't easy and now' he must make decisions by himself. He must realize that others have had this problem before him and that every person, on becoming an adult, has been in this situation. The teacher must show understanding of these problems and aid the student in over- coming his fears. Confidence is necessary because every student will become a building stone in our society. He must have confidence to stand up for his own convictions and responsibilities. He must have the will to be an individual living for the good of the community. Here the teacher must be an ex- ample to inspire the student with the strength he will need later in life, Therefore, we, the Senior class of I964, are honored and pleased to dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Paul E. Hartranft. He is a man who exempli- fies these ideals and has iven the greater part of his life to educating and assisting the students of Schuylkill Haven High School to reach their life's goal. . . . Teacher, example, builder of school spirit, friend, are all titles far our class advisor, Mr. Daubert. From the beginning of our Senior High School days, Mr. Daubert has guided and directed our class in a capable and understanding way. ln the important days of planning our activities, which shall remain with us as some of the most happy memories, Mr. Daubert has aided us in every way. Our proms, graduation activities, and class trip could not have been successful without the guidance and assistance given by him. Al- though it was not easy, Mr. Daubert usually showed great amounts of patience and understanding in every situation. For all these reasons, each member of the class expresses his sincere apprecia- tion To Mr. Daubert. Jacob E. '- I The Principal's Message The corner stone has been laid. Yes, Seniors, each of you, with the able assistance of your home, church, and school has came to that point in life which is yours. Your individual corner stone has been carefully and properly put into place. ln the years to follow, you will realize that less and less assistance will be made available to you in the architectural design of your life. As you will now rapidly strive for more complete independence, you shall be the architect of your own life. The Haven, the home, and the church have been active participants in the laying of the corner stone. The land was most properly surveyed, the form was made of oak, the foundation has been laid well below the freezing point, the mortar was mixed very carefully in every detail, We, lyour teachers, parents, and clergyl, commission you, the Senior Class of I964, to go forth and continue the building of your individual lives and your society, into o fortress of honesty, integrity, and sincerity. As we here at The Haven remain to help lay other corner stones, we shall pause, from time to time, to observe the edifice that has been built upon your cornerstone and as the years pass, some of us will be there to witness the placing of the Keystone. Then, as it slips into place, true and secure, plumb in every respect, we shpll all re- joice in the knowledge of your true accomplish- ment. Mem N .-s ,1- Anhur Argall, B.S. Mrs. Isabel M.
