The ship of life sails on, whate'er may fall We cannot tell what destiny awaits, But we shall sail unto our port of call. As we look back upon our log of past days, Our Haven High stands out in letters gold. To teachers all who helped us gain our goals, May life give them the best that it can hold. To friends we've known and cherished all thru high school, Those last goodbyes we really do regret. But those good times, those friends and teachers true And Haven High -- we never will forget. Tonight we launch - where shall we cast our anchor? That future life is coming into sight. With God's great help, hope for success is near. We now embark upon the sea of life. Lyrics - IANICE IMBODEN Music - DoRoTHY HORNING IAMES KEITH Class Motto: Forward Ever, Backward Never Class Colors: Blue and Silver Class Flower: White Rose CLASS POEM SENIOR'S ADIEU We, the Class of 53 must finally say good- b e, Tlo the teachers we really loved and to our Haven High, We think of all the fun we had, our parties and our friends, But deep within our hearts we know, the joy that never ends. Our thoughts will always ring back to, our final, last good-bye, And some of us, yes, most of us will utter a mighty sigh, For we all know, that here we must forever leave behind, Our friends, our joys, our sorrows -- a new world now to find. And where 'ere you may roam, be it far or near, Always face the future with courage and cheer. And more than words can tell you, and more than we can express, May God bless you and protect you, and lots of success. RICHARD LEE WILLIAMS, 12-C and SAMUEL H. A friendly disposition along with strong traits of character made her a friend of all. She was an active member of the Girl Scouts and a member of the Episcopal Church where she sang in the choir and was a leader in the youth organizations of the church. Catherine, better known to her friends and classmates as Kitty Ann, was first taken ill in 1947. She was then tutored for two years, after which she joined her classmates in ninth grade. In the two months she was with this class, she made many new friends and her sympathetic and understanding nature made her a classmate loved by all. Her one main ambition in life was to return to school and graduate with her classmates. This ambition was never to be realized for on November 11, 1949, Kitty Ann died of rheumatic fever. Although she has passed from among us, she will be with us in our hearts and minds as we attend our graduation exercises and on through our life's work. SHE WALKS IN BEAUTY She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies: And all that's best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes: Thus mellowed to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies. One shade the more, one ray the less, Had half impaired the nameless grace Which waves in every raven tress, Or softly lightens o'er her face: Where thoughts serenely sweet express How pure, how dear their dwelling place. And on that cheek, and o'er that brow, So soft, so calm, get eloquent, The smiles that win, the tints that glow, But tell of days in goodness spent, A mind at peace with all below, A heart whose love is innocent! 35 Log of the Class of '53 September 8, 1950 Set sail upon this new adventure with a crew of 111 sophomores, At the helm is our able adviser, Mr. William Stauffer. Officers of the Ship: First Mate-Iames Keith Second Mate-Mildred Helfner Yeoman-Iames Bohrman Purser--Ianice Imboden Highlights of the Voyage! December 21, 1950 Held the annual Christmas Dance in the gym. A big success and a lot of fun. April 6, 1951 Something new and different, Held a Class Skating Party for the crew and guests. May 18, 1951 Sponsored the Crystal Ball Dance, Had the ship rigged out from stem to stern for the gala event. September 6, 1951 Started on the second year of our voyage with a new man at the helm-Mr. Lawrence Imboden. Officers of the ship: First Nlate-Iames Keith Second Mate-Anne Croneberger Yeoman-Ianice Imboden Purser-'Dorothy Horning Big Events of this Year at Seal December 27, 1951 Held another Christmas Dance. lust as gay as last year's. Nlarch fl-5, 1952 Some of our more talented seamen put on the Iunior Play entitled One Mad Night, which was enjoyed by the crew and the guests, llflay 9, 1952 The part of the journey that our crew anti- cipated most this year, the Iunior Prom. The crew looked very handsome and so did the ship. A grand night for all. September 4, 1952 Set sail for the last time with a crew of 86 Seniors. Mr. Imboden is still at the helm. Offi- cers ol the ship: First Mate-Iames Keith Second Mate-Iames Bohrman Yeoman-Roberta Reber Purser--Dorothy Horning Highlights of this Year of Years: November 25-26, 1952 For the past two years we have had smooth sailing and so it is this year. Right now, we are headed for the Senior Play, All in a Life- time. November 27, 1952 Had a gay time on board ship. Females in- vited males to a Sadie Hawkin's Dance, spon- sored by the crew and held in the gym. During this year our crew outdid itself in outside activities, sports, choruses, clubs, etc. In the field of sports, Donald Knoblauch head- ed our worthy baseball team. Iames Keith, cap- tain of the ship, also co-captained the basket- ball team along with Charles Croneberger. Robert Moyer and Iames Bohrman led our football team to its many victories. April 16-17-18, 1953 Docked in Washington, D. C. for a super holiday, The biggest and best part of our ad- venture. Month of Iune Filled with excitement and fun, but also re- gret. With graduation exercises it is time to close our log: to write an end to a very wonder- ful voyage of life and to hope that our next ad- venture will be a happy and successful one.
