WALTER HINKLE IOSEPH MANBECK BOARD OF DIRECTORS We, the Class of 1952, express our sincere appreciation to the Board of Directors for the interest they have shown in behalf of the students of our school. A cafeteria has been constructed in the rear of the school and is appre- ciated by all those who enjoy the nutritious meals served there. We are truly grateful for the many benefits with which we have been provided, and for the progress which has been made through the efforts of the Board of Directors. 5 auf krisfmarz District Superintendent The Class of 1952 have been fortunate to have Dr. Paul S. Christman as Supervising Prin- cipal throughout our entire school life. He has been active in education throughout the state, and we here at Haven High have been especially fortunate in 'benefiting from what he has accomplished in improving our school facilities. He has set high scholastic and vocational standards which are evidenced by the success of many graduates. We, the graduating class, take this opportunity to sincerely express our appreciation to Dr. Christman for his untiring effort. 6 auf rfrcuzfzf High School Principal We, the members of the senior class of 1952, express our gratitude to Mr. Paul E. Hartranft for his keen interest and for the time he has devoted to guiding us through our years at Haven High. Mr. Hartranft hs indeed spent a great deal of his valuable time in our behalf. Since our year in seventh grade, he has helped to detect our faults and direct our actions. For years, seniors have benefited from his teachings in Problems of Democracy and have learned to ap- preciate the full meaning and importance of Americanism. At this time We take great pleasure in thanking you, Mr. Hartranft, for your consideration and kindness to the pupils of our school. 7 fkei HLLSLLHZ Class Adviser We, the Class of 1952, express our deep and sincere appreciation to Miss Ethel M. Bausum, our class adviser, for the kindness and understanding which she has displayed in successfully guiding us through our junior and senior years at Schuylkill Haven High School. We were indeed fortunate in having a guidance counselor as our class adviser. 8 Faculty GLORIA L. RODGERS, B.A., M.Ed. Penn State College English AARON E. YOUNG, B.S., Ec,, M.S. We've had such joy and happiness and sor- rows, everyone And secretly we'll hate to leave that Hdear old Haven fun. A few of us may meet again: many we'll never see, But deep within our hearts We know what loyal friends we'll be. The friends, the love, and joys we've had: we've always liked to share. We know among ourselves we're the ones that really care. Our minds will always cling to farewells on that last day Of what we said in meaning, the phrase we loved to say: A'God bless you and God keep you, mean more than words can tell Luck, success and joy be yours, as Seniors we say fi Farewell MARILYN IEAN GUDEMANN, 12B Class Motto: Whatever is Worth Doing is Worth Doing Well. Yes, seniors, three years ago we began our high school careers as sophomores, and now we are bringing it to a close. This last year has been the fastest and best of them all, But let us take a brief glimpse into the past. We started our sophomore year under the able guidance of Miss Reinhart, our class ad- visor, and Mr. Kerschner, and Mr. Charles Stauffer, homeroom teachers, We elected our class officers as follows: president, Fred Fel- lows, vice president, Shirley Gehrig, secretary, Rose Wingle, treasurer, Elizabeth Glaser, and historian, Roy Scott. Socially we held a Christmas Dance and the annual Crystal Ball Dance. For both affairs the gym was beautifully decorated by members of the class. Everyone enjoyed the music, dancing, and refreshments very much. The following fall we came back to Haven High to begin the second big step toward our final goal. We again elected Fred Fellows, president, along with Roy Scott, vice president, Shirley Gehrig, treasurer, and Elizabeth Glaser, secretary. We were led through this year by Mr, Brown, Miss Rodgers, and Miss Bausum, who was class advisor. One of the biggest events of our junior year was the receipt of our class rings, which were very attractive and very different. We sponsored a Victory Dance to celebrate the successful football season and, later, the Iunior Prom, These were successful both so- cially and financially. The Iunior Play entitled lt's A Great Life also was a great success. Finally we returned for the big year. We were now seniors. This seemed to have a signi- ficant meaning to all of us. This year we elected Harry Thomas as our president, Richard Brown as vice president, Elizabeth Glaser as treasurer, and Shirley Gehrig as secretary. We were again under the guidance of Mr. Brown, Miss Rodgers, and Miss Bausum. Our football season was successful under the able eye of Coach Stauffer, as was the basket- ball season under the equally able eye of Coach Evans. Seniors who participated in both sports gave a good account of themselves which makes us very proud of them. Our class members were also active in such activities as band, chorus, Hi Y and Tri Hi Y, student council, Haven Fax staff, cheerleading, G.A.A., and Conserva- tion Club. Other successful events in our final year were the Senior Play, A Date With Indy , the HSadie Hawkins Dance, and our momen- tous trip to Washington. Now we have finally reached the end of our goal in our Graduation Exercises, Class Night, and Commencement. Thus are gone forever these truly wonderful years at Haven High. But each of us carries away with him the knowledge and glowing memory to help us in the great struggle of life, The Class of 1952 wishes to thank all who had a part in helping us through these important years and hopes it has left some small good at its Alma Mater by which it will always be remembered. We say then-farewell. dear Haven High. Huy- mnnrl Slum-5. w w 1 A LL ffl I I? GN .,-f , f-uk., This season proved to be a very rewarding one for Coach William Stauffer, his assistant. Harry Hummel, and their gridmen. ln com- piling a record of seven wins, one loss and one tie, this year's team stamped itself as one of thc finest in Schuylkill Haven High Schools his- tory. Starting out in strong fashion, the Hurricanes beating Ashland 19-13 and whipping Miners- ville by a 19-7 score, downed two of their strongest rivals. Then, in perhaps one of the best high school football games of the year, the Hurricanes battled a strong Cass Township team to a 13- 13 tie. Haven, after proceeding to take the measure C T 1 1 O 1 g . 1 1 O o of St. Clair 20-14, ran into a well balanced and speedy Nluhlenburg team. Here the gridders tasted defeat for the first and only time of the season in a well contested game with the visi- tors winning 8-0. The final three games saw the Hurricanes roll up large scores in beating Erackville, 38-12, Mahanoy City, 32-12, and Shillington, 34-14. Ten varsity players will be lost by gradua- tion, but the prospects for next season are promising. The players graduating are Roy Scott, Fred Fellows, Clarke Hershey, Iohn Wolfe, Willard Kramer. lohn Whalen, Calvin Krammes, Ronald Best, Robert Zimmerman and Evan Bowen. Basketball Summary, 1951-'52 The Hurricanes, compiling a fine record ol 22 victories and 4 defeats brought glory to our school, winning the Class B championship of the Bloomsburg Invitation Tournament. In finishing second in the South Schuylkill League, Coach Win Evan's cagers had a record of 18 wins and 2 losses and were the only team to beat Pine Grove in league play. Cur team entered the finals of the league playoffs only to suffer defeat at the hands of our greatest rival, Pine Grove, in a well con- tested game. The lay Vees also won great honor for themselves by posting 22 consecutive victories without a defeat. This shows great promise for next season. Six varsity players will be lost by graduation. They are: Roy Scott, Richard Sherrv, Fred Bittle, Russell Miller, Fred Fellows, and Calvin Krammes. 1951-52 BASKETBALL SCHEDULE Dat Team Haven Opp. Dee Auburn 63 36 Dec, Reilly 57 28 Dec Port Carbon 73 28 Dec Tremont 73 26 Ian.
