The team finished the regular season in third place with a record of 9-4-1 and were seeded 8th in a field of 12 in the State Tournament. The underdog Sachems used a total team effort . . the vulture . . . and the inspiration- al song STAND BY ME to raise their level of ptay and to achieve their suprising results. Co-Captains Stacey Marotta and Martha Wall led the way with a great deal of help from seniors Michele DiChiara. Cathy Salerno and Pam Simmons. This team proved that anything can be accomplished when every- one pulls together and plays with an all out effort for the entire game. Junior Sandra Whyte 5 goals and 9 assists. Senior Martha Wall 5 goals and 7 assists, Senior Pam Simmons 9 goals and 1 assist. Junior Debra Chase 4 goals and 3 assists. BOYS SOCCER The Boys Soccer Team compiled a 6-7-5 record, allowing only 13 goals in 18 games and posted 9 shutouts . . . the second best shutout record in school history. The team was led by tri-captains Bob Chinchillo, Don Collins and Anthony Prizio. Two seniors made the N.E.C. All Star Team: Ken Webb and Olivier Kadji. Ken Webb was Saugus ' leading scorer. In league play the Golf team posted a 7 win . . 2 loss score . . . good enough for second place. This achievement qualified the team for the State Tournament held at Putter- ham Meadows in Brookline. By do- ing so they became the only boys sports team in the school ' s history to win back to back titles. Paul Kinnaly became Saugus High ' s all time leading scorer, breaking Matt McGovern ' s record. Six Saugus players were se- lected to the Northeast Conference All-Star Team . . . Paul Kinnaly, Don Maccini, Kevin Wort- man, Dave Gecoya, Jeff Paolini and Mike Maruzzi. Kevin Wortman was cho- sen as the league MVP . . . Led by Cap- tains Todd Magura, Stan Greene and Jim Sartori, the Sachems have won and lost several very close games this year. The Junior laden team should be a team to watch in the remaining season.
