Water Sports in Saugerties Both the upper and lower Esopus Creek and the Hudson River lend theinselves to tl1e sport of boating. It is not surprising' then that the people of Saugerties are boat-ininded. On a sunnner's day, it is possible to see the owners of rowboats, outboard niotorboats, and the more fortunate owners of power boats enjoying this satisfying' sport. lVhether it be a large powerboat or a row boat, their owners are equally proud to participate in a sport so well enjoyed in this connnunity. The Esopus Creek and the Hudson River are the favorite swinnning haunts of inany of our young' people. Both adults and children enjoy this sport. We are fortunate in having an excellent bathing beach within reach of all. All sunnner long, the happy shouts of swinnners echo across the waters of the creek and the river. Un a hot sunnner's day, both children and adults agree that there is nothing like a cooling dip in the Esopus Creek. The area in and surrounding' Saugerties is known the state over for its excellent fishing. Saugerties' sportsmen fish the year round. In the spring, the icy 1110l1lltalll springs give up flashing' brook trout. During' the sunnner, fishermen frequent the Esopus Creek for bass, pickerel, bullheads and sunfish. The Hudson River is famed for its shad and large catfish. lVhen winter colnes, lllirlllf' hardy sportsmen brave tl1e icy winds to fish through the ice for perch and pickerel. Enthusiastic HSll91'l1lQ1l can find a wide and plentiful Variety of fish here i11 all seasons.
