Vtkki Watson: Mayor of Satsuma Matt Cooper: Mayor of Creoia The purpose of Youth Appreciation was to acquaint the youth with their community government. Vikki Watson and Matt Cooper were elected mayors of Satsuma and Creoia by the Senior Class. They attended a luncheon at the Ramada Inn on November 12. They also took the places of Mayors Little and Moss for a day. Vikki and Matt were enriched and grateful for the opportunity to represent the Starship SHS in Youth Appreciation Week. They hoped the experience would enlighten ROTAG’s knowledge of political odysseys.

The crew of the Starship SHS got a chance to break out of the regular routine to hear a rock concert given by the band Free Fare, which is one of eight different bands tour- ing the United States and Canada each year. This group of Christian musicians performed popular pop and rock selections and had a “Star Wars” skit with au- dience participation. After their performance, the band talked with the students about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. Certainly this year’s Odyssey was enhanced by the music of Free Fare.

Emma Pilgrim is the accompanist. Angie Boddie sings “The Greatest Love of All”. Darlene White writes the songs. Chris Pirkle and Robin Smith are the emcees for the night. The 1987 Miss Satsuma Pageant was one of the greatest galas of the galaxy. From the beginning, with the Senior Beauties’ por- trayal of women featured in hit songs, to the grand finale and the announcement of Miss Satsuma herself, the crowd was entertained all evening. After classic entertainment by several of the Starship’s students, the judges’ final decision was made and Miss Satsuma, 1987, was Miss Bonnie Casey. Her court included: Margaret Moore, first runner-up; Bell Whatley, second runner-up; Shannon Craft, Miss Congeniality; Christi Mitchell, Miss Photogenic; Laura Lomax, Junior Beauty; Melanie Woodall, Sophomore Beauty; and Leslie Norwood, Freshman Beauty. With these girls as evidence, the statement “A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody” was proven true. Kevin Markham and Kristy McKenzie are Wolfie and his songbird.
