Queen, Phyllis Waters, lit the huge bonfire, the wood of which the freshmen gathered as part of their initiation. Duane Clark and Arthur Whitmer, alumni of Sargent, gave pep talksg and Don Oellien, captain of the Monte Vista team, gave a short talk. After the band played some pep music and the cheerleaders led some yells, the students, teachers, alumni, and boosters piled into two trucks and several cars and went into Monte Vista, where they formed a huge snake dance and paraded through town. Carrol Patterson, who represented the queen in his boots, purple pajamas, red coat, ten-gallon hat, false teeth, and wig, led the dance. The snake dance proceeded through Murphy's and the City Cafe, and at various intersections they formed a circle and gave yells for Sargent and the team. Friday afternoon was the game with Monte Vista. Although Sargent lost the game, everybody had a good time. At the half while the band was forming Phyllis's initials, Phyllis and her attendants, Norma Goff and Juanita Burkholder, were paraded around the field in a yellow convertible. The band formed a crown around the convertible, Phyllis was crowned with a wreath of roses and presented with a corsage by the team captain, Junior Martin. He also presented Norma and Juanita with corsages. The dance held Friday night in the cafeteria was the last event of Homecoming. Roy Kincannon and Darrell Blackburn furnished the music. The room was decorated with a false ceiling of black and gold crepe paper. Homecoming pennants were hung around the room and Phyllis' name made of yellow carboard letters hung from the ceiling. The Athletic Club officers and three representatives elected from the student body made up a commission which presented the athletic awards. They sold magazines again this year to make money. The Athletic Club's biggest activity this year was sponsoring and financing Sargent's second Homecoming, October 7 and 8. The Homecoming was off to a hilarious start on Thursday night when nearly the entire school, clad in their brightly striped and checkered pajamas, tumed out to the bonfire rally. The Homecoming

The purpose of our club is: CID to promote a growing appreciation of the joys and satis- faction of home-making, CZD to emphasize the importance of worthy home membershipg C31 to foster the development of creative leadership in home and community lifeg CLD to provide wholesome individual and group recreation, and UD to further interest in home economics. The biggest project we had this year was the painting of the home-ec room. We made stocking dolls and sold them near Christmas time.
