Fine Arts encourage creativity Out well-known instrumental music director, MR. GEORGE C. BRITE, has taught in SHS for eight years. The many fine performances of our marching, concert, and stage bands may be attributed to his skill in organizing the various factions of these groups and in guiding them to do their best work. Graduating from the University of Michigan, he acquired a M.M.E. degree. Mr. Brite attends the Methodist Church. Mr. White helps these boys master their art. Teaching private voice lessons, singing in the church choir, and sponsoring the active sophomore class are some of the activities of the busy Junior and Senior High vocal music teacher, MR. VEDON LAW. Mr. Law is in his first year of teaching in Sapulpa and attends the First Methodist Church. A newcomer to the Sapulpa school system, teaching both art and English, is MR. LEE WHITE. Mr. White is a graduate of Central State College where he received a B.A. degree. Getting in the swing of things he has used his talent in working as a senior sponsor and sponsor of the boys' Pep Club. Mr. White attends the Church of Christ. A bar of music—a piece of sculpture—modern art— abstract paintings—these things all mean talent. Talent and creativity, originality, and artistic endeavors may all be found in Sapulpa High School's fine arts department. Here students seek the opportunity to express themselves and their ideas. Music students attend choir and band contests while budding young artists display their achievements in the form of exhibits at fairs and art contests. The results of their accomplishments are shown in the high ratings they bring home. 23

During her nine years of teaching in SHS, MRS. HELEN HAIL MCALLISTER has taught four years of English and five years of United States history and international problems. Mrs. McAllister has a M.A. degree from O.S.U. Aside from the many hours required for school work, Mrs. McAllister finds time to co-sponsor the junior class and also the Horizon Club. She is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She attends the Presbyterian Church. Current history provokes thought enriches knowledge of world events As girl's counselor, MISS MILDRED FISHER has played an important role at SHS for the past eight years. As a graduate of George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, Tennessee, she earned a M.A. degree. Miss Fisher teaches psychology, sponsors the Student Council, is a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and Kappa Kappa Iota. MR. DAVID SIPPY, our highly respected football coach and athletic director, has taught social studies for five years at SHS. He has a M.E. degree from Northeastern State College. Mr. Sippy is very active in the Key Club and the Letterman’s Club. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing and bowling. It has been said that history repeats itself for those who have no knowledge of history. In the social studies department an effort is made not only to help the student to understand the present by the study of the past, but also to develop in the student the ability to think critically and to respect and understand the heritage of our country and of the world at large. 22 No, Cortez wasn't a Civil War general!

MR. V. E. BONHAM senior sponsor and teacher of diversified occupations has been at SHS for 17 years. He has a M.S. degree from O.S.U. Mr. Bonham's activities are the T. and I. Club and Lions Club. He attends the Presbyterian Church. Students receive helpful sewing tips from Mrs. Bomgardncr. Vocations prepare students for the future Teaching homemaking at SHS for seven years, MRS. JEWELL BOMGARDNER sponsors t h c F.H.A. and sophomore class. She has a B.S. degree from the Oklahoma College for Women. Mrs. Bom-gardner likes to spend her leisure time fishing, working in the yard, and skiing during summer vacation. She attends the First Methodist Church. MR. W. H. SHAW, having been at SHS for four years, is teaching three classes of industrial arts and one class of world history. He has a M.A. degree from East Central State College. Audio Visual and Stage Craft are his school activities while he enjoys fishing, hunting, golfing, and playing table tennis in his leisure time. MR. QUENTIN WALKUP, who has been at SHS for 15 years, teaches vocational agriculture, sponsors the Future Farmers of America Club, and takes an active part in the Rotary Club.
