O • •i• Senior Citizens Volunteers For the first time in Santa Clara County, senior citizens have a meaningful role in a public high school. The volunteer seniors are tutoring students in reading, writing and math. They are also serving as resource people by providing suggestions for adding real-life writing skills to the curriculum. In exchange for thier services, the seniors are entitled to use their choice of Santa Teresa’s facilities and or receive other help as needed. As a result of the program, the students and staff of S.T. have become involved with the seniors at the Southside Community Center. For example, students from the jazz band and drama class performed at the center. In addition, many S.T. students helped the senior citizens have a nicer Christmas by contributing food during the school’s annual food drive. Mr. Gigliotti, a S.T. safety education teacher, holds weekly exercise classes for the senior citizens. Faculty 249
