This year’s team is expected to be extremely strong as there is a very good group of freshmen and many returning lettermen. The sprints will be very strong with Karen and Kristen Dowell, both under 60 seconds in the 440. Also sprinting for the Saints will be Arleda Burch, Laura Henry, and Debbie Spina. The distances will be handled by Sheri Opp, Gina DeLa Rosa, Rhonda Fuller, Carmen Dojahn, Alisa Owens, Michelle Spooner, and Chris Calvello. Velana Ferro is the returning league champion in the 330 hurdles. Also running hurdles will be Cathy Nydam and Laura Henry. The shot and discus throws will be taken care of by Danielle Belanger, Cathy Nydam, and Amy Barron. The jumps will have Debbie Derfelt (1981 county champion in the triple jump), Alisa Owens, Andrea Lorenz, and Amy Barron. Boys’ Frosh-Soph Track This year’s Frosh-Soph team should be enriched with an abundance of talent. Whether or not the team fares well is still a question that will be answered before the season ends. However, there will be many potential stars that should highlight the season. The team will be highlighted by the presence of Travis Knox. Only a Freshman, he is already one of the best hurdlers in the school. He’s already set a Frosh-Soph record in the low hurdles. His performance should also be very helpful to the varsity squad. Joe Brink will also help the Frosh- Soph team with his sprinting abilities in the 100-200 and 400. All in all, it will be an Interesting year. Boys’ Frosh-Soph Track 163
