Boys’ Frosh-Soph Basketball This year’s Frosh Soph Basketball Team was one of the best in Santa Teresa’s history. They compiled a record of 20 wins against only 4 losses. They won the Piedmont Hills Christmas Tournament and finished second in the 16 team Delmar Classic. Demedric Cooks was named All-Tournament in both events and Kent Whelihan was All-Tournament at Delmar. The team climaxed the season by beating Independence in a playoff for the South Division Championship. The day after the Independence playoff the young Saints lost to Mt. Pleasant for the Mt. Hamilton Championship. Santa Teresa was forced to play the final game without starting guard, Paul Martin and starting forward, Milton Thomas. With 8 of this year’s sophomores moving up, next year, the varsity should have a good chance to win the league. Top Row: Coach Schuster. Larry Luscher. Boys’ Soccer The Boys’ Varsity Soccer enjoyed one of its best seasons ever, advancing to the C.C.S. quarter finals before losing to 1 ranked Saratoga in an overtime shoot-out. After being edged out of the league championship by half a game, Santa Teresa entered the tournament as the MHAL’s second place team. The Saints brought with them a 7-1-1 league record and an 10-2-2 overall mark. The most memorable game of the season occurred in the tournament in a 2-1 win over highly ranked Santa Clara. Veteran goalie Jeff Wudarki went down injured. Freshman Mark Dougherty proceeded to put on an incredible exhibition of goal keeping and kept the Saints in the match. The score at the end of two overtimes was 1-1. The single Saint goal was scored by Jim McConnell. The game was eventually decided on penalty kicks. Standouts for the Saints this year were Randy Prescott, the league’s most valuable player, Duane Dirstine and Jeff Wudarki who received first team all league honor; and Matt Willman, Scott Kouns and Andy Zavodnick who received second team all league honor.
