Boys’ Varsity Basketball The boy’s varsity basketball team for the 1981-82 season can be described in one word — Exciting”! The Saints won 8 games this year by three or less points, which earned them the nicknames Candiac Kids. Led by Henry Strother’s and Daryl Dickson’s outside shooting and tight defense, Jeff Prosser and Jim Jessup’s rebounding, Jim Machmiller's and Joe Koeplin’s ball handling, the Saints ran up their best record in Santa Teresa history and took second place in the M.H.A.L. with 11 wins and 4 losses. From there they went to the C.C.S playoffs, defeating Harbor High School in the first round, and losing to Westmont 5742 in the second round. Girls’ Varsity Basketball This year’s edition completed a 19-5 regular season. Our league record was 12-1 and a South Division Co-Championship. We defeated Piedmont Hills in the 1st round of the MHAL play-offs, 60-53, before losing 61-39 to Aptos in the first round of the C.C.S. playoffs. Lisa Ice has been our strength. She scored in double figures for 65 straight games, averaging 22.1 points per game. This season she became the first Saint to score 1500 points in a career. Debbie Livingood set records in assists for the Saints along with scoring at a 10.5 rate. Cheryl Machado chipped in at an 8.6 points per game clip, and also added many needed rebounds.
