Varsity Volleyball This year’s team had one of the most tense and exciting seasons in the school’s history. They dubbed the “comeback” kids early in the season when they went into third game tiebreakers with Leland and North Salinas. A loss to Independence in the second league match proved to be both a burden and a blessing. It put added pressure on the Saints to win. However, the notorious nine took the loss and used it as a team strengthener. They learned from their errors and pulled together in a total effort to come out on top. The Saints went on to overwhelm the undefeated Royals; 15-9, 6- 15,15-11 taking over the first place spot and eventual league title. In C.C.S., the Saints creamed Carmel High 1015, 15-1, 154, but fell to highly ranked Gunn 10-15, 13-15 in an outstanding final match. Lisa Ice was named M.H.A.L. Most Valuable Player by a unanimous vote of the league coaches. All league honors were gamed by Callie Carpenter, Karen Chamberlin, and Traci Tremoureux with Rosalyn McNeal receiving honorable mention. The team M.V.P. award was shared by seniors Lisa Ice and Karen Chamberlin, with Callie Carpenter capturing the Most Inspirational title.
