Varsity Tennis The Saints finished the season with a very successful record of 10 and 3. Tough competition from the Independence and Piedmont Hills teams gave the Saints their only losses. Outstanding efforts were displayed by the team’s 1 singles’ player, Nancy Dowling. As a sophomore, she ended the season with a win loss record of 12 and 1, placing her first in the league. Vital to the team’s spirit this year was sophomore Gidget Uda, who was the most congenial and most improved player. She played in several varsity matches during the latter part of the season, and can look forward to being in the top 10 next year. Jill Matsumoto Jennifer King Suyoung Baik Lauren Whelihan Nancy Dowling Cathy Toscano 128 The Saints’ four singles players and two doubles teams competed in the MHAL Playoffs. Cheryl Machado, the 2 singles player succeeded to the finals where she was defeated by Independence’s 1. The doubles team of Dowling and Machado set a record for the second straight year when they easily defeated Piedmont Hills and won MHAL honors. The team then went on to play in C.C.S. competition lost to an outstanding team from Palo Alto. They placed third in the entire league of 10 schools. We will be losing three players, but the remaining talent and skill should place S.T. on top in ’82. Girls’ Tennis
