Richard Mendoza 1241 gets blocks from Harold Foote 14 and Art Malone C271 in 40-6 victory over San Manuel. SAN MANUEL: S. C. ended a perfect week of homecoming activities by brushing -off the Miners 40-6. Art Malone and Ray Powell kept account of all the Devils' scoring. One of Powell's two touch- downs came on a 99 yard pass interception. A sturdy Devil defense held San Manuel to one scoring. Art Malone gains yards but loses shirt against Hayden. AIO: The Santa Cruz Devils started the season off- with a real bang with a 25-12 victory over the Ajo Raiders. Senior halfback Art Malone, showing prom- ise of an exciting future, scored all four Eloy touch- downs. The conference win started the Devils on the path to their goal, a perfect record, and a State championship rolled in. Defensive standout was back Ray Powell, also playing his last year on the Dust Devil squad. 70 TIMEGRID MARK: FLOWING WELLS: The Dust Devils, led by the powerful running of Art Malone and Ray Powell scored 26 points in the 2nd quarter and coasted to a 26-14 win over the tough Flowing Wells team. This was the Dust Devils' 3rd strong victory and it knocked the Cabs from the ranks of the unbeaten. Ray Powell makes big gain against Flowing Wells. M. Bustos GOD, Les Rankin 1813. COOLIDGE: The Devils spoiled Coo1idge's home- coming celebration by blasting the Bears 64-14 and winning their 7th game in a row. Malone was a one man scoring machine racking up six touchdowns, five coming in the first half. Most spectacular play of the game was a touchdown pass covering 85 yards from Foote to Powell. Art Malone scores against Hayden as Manuel Urquides f66j looks for block.

Art Malone shakes off tackler against Superior. Fred Ballard 1741, Gary Kinne 1501, Robert Colores 1651. SUPERIOR: The Dust Devils, led by the strong passing arm of Harold Foote and the fine pass receiving of Ray Powell, initiated Superior into the Class A League with a lop-sided 56-6 victory over the Panthers. A strong Devil defense, led by middle guard Darrell Grubbs, held the Panthers to only one touchdown. Ray Powell makes gain against Miami's Vandals. MIAMI: Halfback Art Malone led S.C. to its first victorious battle with Miami, clinching the 3-A division title with a score of 26-14 win over the Vandals. A fine defense, led by Bert Wootan and Ray Powell held the Vandals' potent offense to fourteen points. One such touchdown came in the last five seconds of fast and furious play. EARN I2-O QEAQON GLOBE: After being held to only 6 points in the first three quarters, the Devils caught fire and scored 25 points in the final period, defeating the Globe Tigers 51-6. The fine pass defense picked off three Tiger passes which set up the touchdowns that let Santa Cruz win their first game ever over Globe. Ray Powell catches T.D. pass in 56-6 win over Superior. NOGALES: The Dust Devils made it six wins in a row with a 41-0 romp over the Apaches of No- gales. The Devils' offense rolled for six touchdowns behind the running of Art Malone and Richard Men- doza and the fine aim of Harold Foote. A brick wall defense held the Apaches scoreless in the Devils' second shutout. Richard Mendoza f24J catches T.D. pass against Nogales in 41-0 win.
