'Ts RAY ELKINS, Varsity Basketball Captain The varsity basketball team returned to action for the l955-l956 season with a strong aggrega- tion and were the preseason favorites to cop its second straight S.C.V.A.L. title. After a slow start, with two victories in its first five encounters, they suddenly came to life as they bagged three straight victories in the lames Lick lnvitational Tournament to run off with the team champion- ship. The varsity rolled through its league schedule with only one setback, and that to a spirited Mt. View team by the score of 5689. Not to be discouraged by this loss, the Panthers bounced back with four straight league wins to finish in a three-way tie for the title. Bob Lister, All-Valley and All-City choice this year, was high scorer for the team and also walked off with the division scoring lead with lU4 points. Larry Guilford, second team All- Valley, will return along with Bon Cachopo and Bob Lister. Team captain, Ray Elkins, who re- ceived a first team berth on the All-S.C.V.A.L. team, and Bob Lorenzo will be lost to the team due to graduation. 27
