After Early Seasn I. V Girls Hnish League Un defea ted For The girls J.V. Team, 4985-86 proved To be a very challenging year. WiTh only Three refurning players, There were many ques- Tions To be answered. The varsiTy Team showed Tremendous supporf and paTience in helping The J.V. learn new offenses and defenses. Aside from This assisfance The play- ers had To grow accusfomed To each oTher's sfyle, and develop a Team spiriT on Their own. They played a Tough pre-season schedule, due To Their inexperience and some difficulf opponenfs, buf The girls improved wiTh each game. They worked hard and iT showed. Turning iT around wiTh a one poinT vicTory over ST. Joseph, The Team wenT on To win six sTraighT games before losing To Buena. The Sainfs recovered quickly from This upseT- Ting loss, and remained undefeaf- ed for The resT of The season. The final record was 43-7 overall and 8- 0 in league. A big parT of The Teams success was due To The deTerminaTion and dedicafion of The players. Equally responsible was The leadership and example seT by The Three sopho- mores: Gina Escamilla, Marian Breda, and Team capTain Suzanne Brick.
