Capturing A Dream Saints I-Ynish Season Number 1 In Desert Mountain Conference SanTa Clara's varsiTy fooTball Team was recognized during The season by The C.l.F. DeserT-Moun- Tain Conference, Cwhich consisTs of 30 Teamsj and in VenTura CounTy for Their achievemenTs on The grid-iron. Our SainTs sTarTed The pre-season Tabbed number Two in The conference, and num- ber four in The Press-Courier Poll, which raTes high school Teams in The VenTura and SanTa Barbara CounTies. S.C. quickly lived up To Their rankings by finishing Their regular season 9-'I and sTaying in The number one or number Two posiTion in The conference for all buT one week. The SainTs proved They were a powerhouse in The counTy by sTaying in The Press- Courier's poll all season long, and being raTed in The Top five for eighT weeks. By The end of The season our fooTballers were ready To enTer posT season play in defense of Their number one conference and counTy ranking. IT had been many a year since S.C. Sain ts dominatlon complete I V finish un beaten This has been an outstanding year for Coach Larry Lawrence and The J.V. football team. They went undefeated with a record of 8-O-2. This was largely due To their defensive line-up which consisted of strong players such as Will Jones, Andy Ahearn, and Kenny Knight. Quarterback Mike Teron also had an excellent season leading The offense with help from receivers Rich- ard Mendez, Matt Young, and running back Steve Villa. The leadership and encouragement shown by The coaches were reflected by The suc- cessful Team and proved To be a con- tributing factor To Their victories.
