Vicuna is pulled down for short gain despite blocking by Jack Hennessey. The season ended with tears in the eyes of the Santa Clara Saints. The team had made a terrific comeback from its season-end's slump but was still overpowered by Santa Ynez. The excited students crowded around the field awaiting the re-run of the play that brought Kurt Kenney so near to giving us a share in the Tri-Valley League title. How fitting an end to a season which started with stunning victories over our opponents, if only we could make it in the overtime! Mike O'Brien showed that skill as defensive and offensive end which won him an All-League title. Bob Gianelli, line backer, played with that same power and aggressiveness that had marked him throughout the season for another winner of an All-League title. His interception of an Ynez pass set up the second Saint's score. Archie Soliz and Ted Holden, our quarterbacks, gave a scrappy showing like that which enabled us to defeat Villanova. Gill Gonzalez, our powerful fullback, on his end-sweep for a T-D brought back memories of his crushing drives against Bishop leaving trails of battered opponents lying on the turf. ln all, our team was a credit to our school. As Coach Cviiano- vich said, They were fantastic. Watch out next year. And so, our loyal thanks and appreciation are extended to our team and coaches for their work over a long and hard- fought season. in drive for second CIF title.
