George Kramer, John Schott, Richard Chaparro, Dan Bodle, Jerry Vinson, Coach Lou Cvijanovich. FRONT ROW, Richard Brucker, Nick Escamilla, Dick Jaquez, Steve Miller, and Denny Gherini. Santa Clara 1958-59 Varsity Basketball team enjoyed a fine season. Mr. Cvijanovich's first S. C. team captured the coveted C. I. F. championship. Making all-league were versatile forwards Dick laquez and Nick Escamillag rebound aces Tony Caputo and Steve Miller. Miller was named to the first-team all-C. I. F. For the first time in its basketball history, Santa Clara was able to defeat Oxnard High School. Coach Cvijanovich remarked after the victory: This was a team victory made possible only by the boys playing as a unit, not as individuals. This unity among the players continued through the season. Going into C.l.F. competition, the Saints were figured to re- main in the contest as far as the quarterfinalsg there they would go down in defeat before Bishop High as they had done the pre- vious year. This was not to be done. Undaunted by odds, the Saints walloped Bishop, pre-favorite Ramona, and Trona to cap- ture the C.l.F. Class A Crown. Our hats off to a great basketball team!

Once again, Santa Clara's B basketball team enioyed a win- ning season. Equalling the varsity's win streak of twenty-two con- secutive league games, the B's showed the potential of great team play. All-league selections were Phil Kelley, Armando Ochoa and Tom Gill. Tom finished the season playing for the varsity. For the first time, the B's defeated 0xnard's B team. All of the team played great ball in securing the victory. With those who will be playing B basketball for another sea- son, along with many C players coming up, we may look lor- ward to another championship team.
