Members of the Generator Staff, under the editorship of Jim Spiegel for the first semester and Donna Draga-set the second, have labored skillfully and painstakingly in their task of supplying news and information to the whole school. The Generator Staff is, perhaps, the busiest of all the publication staffs in Santa Ana Senior High School, os it has the responsibility of publishing, copy-reading, and proof-reading twenty-four papers a year. This means the job of getting out on the average of one paper a v eek. In spite of the tremendous amount of work required of each member, the staff still reported all the sports events, parties, dances, club doings, and personal items, and met deadlines faithfully. Mr. Delmar Martens acted as advisor for the first semester, and Miss Mildred Watson took over the responsibility for the second semester. However, with the cooperation and help of all the journalism students, the Generator sailed through a successful year. Much credit also goes to Mr. Willard E. Francis for his co-operation in helping to publish the paper. f Writ row: J. Elmore, I.. Parra. C. Heyael, G. White. G. Heysel. -Mr. Martens. Second row: B. Knapp, J. Schermcrhorn, K. Handle. 1). The photo work for the Ariel has usually fallen on the shoulders of one or two enthusiastic young photographers. This year the staff was increased to allow for a more complete coverage of school events and activities, as well as to ease the load from too few shoulders. This Ariel staff should be better known as the Photography Staff of Santa Ana High School, as it has done most of the pictures for the Generator in addition to its work on the yearbook. The staff, under the guidance of Mr. Gerald Bruce, advisor, had to mount the senior pictures, put the names on other class pictures, photograph scenes for the divisional pages, and supervise the taking of other pictures. During the first semester, the photography staff also sponsored a contest for snapshots for the Ariel, with a $5.00 prize for the best picture. This group was also in charge of the 1950 Ariel banquet. celebrating the successful conclusion of the year's work on the book. Photography Editor Ronald Dozier A picture is worth a thousand words. The Creative Writing Class, under the guidance of Miss Mildred Watson, writes and publishes Leaves in the Wind ' every year. Much painstaking effort was put forth by John Harvey. editor of the magazine, and the editorial staff. With the aid of Miss Watson, the entire class chose the best writings; then, the real work began. With the deadline looming up before them, the seventeen potential writers taking the course worked hard rewriting, copy-reading, and re-typing their brainchildren, until finally the book was ready to go to press. Barbara Buchanan, business editor, took over the publicity, and at last pushed the actual sale over the top. All work and no play makes Sammy and Sally Saint dull students. Miss Watson, being the understanding advisor that she is, suggested a party to celebrate the success of Leaves in the Wind. This suggestion was acted upon, and for one evening these would be Shakespeares forgot about the Rhyming Dictionary and the Thesaurus and concentrated on fun. A most successful and happy year was enjoyed by the Creative Writing Class. They have learned not only to write stories and poems but also to take criticism of their work good naturedly.
