Mr. John King is a graduate of the University of Alabama where he received both an A.B. and M.A. degree. In addi- tion to teaching art at Emma Sansom, he also teaches at Gadsden High School. He instructs a class in art at the University Center at night. Miss Francis Tatum attended Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, where she re- ceived a Bachelor of Music degree. In addition to teaching five classes of glee club each day, she sponsors Emma San- som’s vocal group, the Goldentones. Miss Tatum and her students are called upon by civic groups of our town to present musical numbers. They are very popular with all clubs and organizations in the community. Mr. Billy “Rip” Reagan is a graduate of Emma Sansom High School and Jack- sonville State College where he received a B.S. degree in music education. Mr. Reagan has led our band to three national championships, two of them in first place. He has done a wonderful job with our famed “Rebel” band.

 V 1 r 00000000 With a B.S. degree from the University of Alabama, Mrs. Marie McDonald very ably serves as the head of the commercial department. She teaches beginners’ typing, advanced shorthand, advanced typing, office practice, and business English. Many of the graduates of the commercial department have secured responsible positions without having to attend business college because of the thoroughness with which she operates her department. She works every summer to schedule all the students for the following year. Mrs. Charlotte Cottingham is a graduate of Athens College where she received an A.B. degree. She teaches business training, business math, and office practice. The success of the Junior-Senior dance every spring is due, in a large measure, to the efforts of Mrs. Cottingham. Her person- ality makes her a favorite of all the stu- dents. Mrs. Helen Nichols attended Jacksonville State College where she received a B.S. degree. She is teaching beginners’ typing, beginners’ shorthand and bookkeeping. She also serves as sponsor of the Future Bus- iness Leaders of America.

Miss Evelyn Rice is a graduate of Jack- sonville State College where she received a B.S. degree. In addition to teaching girls’ physical education, she also teaches freshman English and biology. She serves as the sponsor of the Emma Sansom cheer- leaders. Mrs. Jean Folsom attended Gadsden High School and Alabama Polytechnic Institute, where she received B.S. and M.S. degrees. Helping to keep the students at Emma Sansom in good physical fitness, she teaches girls’ physical education. She knows the value of physical training in high school and college. She was a majorette at Gads- den High School and at Auburn. Mrs. Ella Mary Chambers is a graduate of Alabama College where she received a B.S. degree. She is the head of the Home Economics department and also is the sponsor of the Future Homemakers of Amer- ica club. Each year she has interesting programs and demonstrations conducted in her classes by guests she invites from the Alabama Power Company, The Gas Com- pany and the Dairy Association.
