ELIISS HISTUIW JUNIOR YEAR Well. believe if or nof, fhe day finally arrived when we became, al long lasf, Upper- classmen. Soon affer school sfarfed, fhe iunior class elecfed ifs officers and held meef- ings. The fopic of fhese meefings during fhe fall semesfer was fhe purchase of class sweafers for our senior year. The color chosen was maroon, wi+h sfeel-gray blocks edged wifh maroon. Aldo Dell'Era was our new sludenf body prexy. Foofball season was in full swing by fhe end of 'rhe firsf monfh of school. Our season was nof one fhaf could be called successful, buf if was considerably beffer fhan in The pasl' years. Our ramblers beaf fhe Tamalpais foofball feam wi1'h a vicfory score of I8-6. Our varsify fried hard buf we losf. The score was close, 7-O. We all remembered 'fhe fad lhaf sfruclc San Rafael al' fhe end of fhe fall semesferz fhe ulces and fhe shoufing of Mule Train as if echoed fhrough fhe halls will always re- main a memory. - ln January. Winfer Wonderland, fhe Ra Ravas-Les Coufs formal, was given and was a huge success. Miss O'Brien was our class adviser. Elecfion fime rolled around again and +he new spring officers foolc office. A swim- ming parfy, wifh a dance following, was given. Hawaiian Holiday was 'rhe fheme, and fhe decorafions were beaufiful. The weafher was a nice warm, made-fo-order day, and fhe parfy was really wonderful. Wifh June came The Senior Ball, which was held af Aquafic Parlc in San Francisco. Finally graduafion, and we became seniors when fhe class of '50 swifched fheir fassels on fheir caps as graduafes. Alfhough we were 'all happy fo be fhe new senior class, many of us had regrels, realizing fhe old school would nof be quife fhe same affer fhe class of '50 was gone. SENIOR YEAR If was a happy day, on fhaf opening day of school on Sepfember IZ. I95I. We did 'rhe usual fhings, gafhering in assembly, wafched fhe flag ceremony, wenl fo classes, and chaffed wifh our friends. lf seemed odd af firsf 'lhaf we were seniors, bul' if didn'f 'lake long +o gef used fo fhaf. Tom Cagwin was our new sfudenf body presidenf, and a really good one. Doug Fox was elecfed senior class presidenf. Then fhe usual whirl began. Firsf came fhe Frosh recepfion, enfifled Cradle Crawl, and fhen foofball season opened. Nr fhe close of fhe season we ranlced very low, and Tam really lciclced our feelh in, wifh a score of 63-O. Ouchl Hello Day. 'rhe Magazine Drive, various dances puf on by clubs, plays, assem- blies, and Searchlighf acfivifies were all fhings which we as seniors supervised: wheels now-no less! January rolled around wilh ifs 'lime for fhose sfudenf body elecfions. Believe if or nof, S.R. had a girl prexy. Breaking wifh fradifion, Shari Ruegg proved fhaf a girl could adequafely fill a boy's shoes as presidenf. Tom Cagwin 'roolc over as senior class presi- denf and made arrangemenfs fo have 'rhe Senior Prom af fhe Fairmont Slaves were seen on roller slcafes. in lcilrly-cars, bandannas and everyfhing imaginf able. Conrad Mueller did a good iob as aucfioneer on Slave Day. Rhapsody in Blue, fhe besl' dance of fhe year, was presenfed by fhe Ra Ravas and Les Coufs. And who will ever forgef 'rhose Fairdays and Barn Dances? Snow frips, variefy shows, frolics, aquacades, fesfivals, parfies, senior picfures. and millions of fhe liffle unforgefable incidences are now all a 'rhing of fhe pasf. To you, fhe new up-and-coming seniors, we leave fhe responsibilify of holding up 'lhe repufafion of S.R.l-l.S., and we wish you fhe besf of luclc. THE SEIIIUIT FRESHMAN YEAR On The opening day oT school in SepTember, l947, a mighTy Timid group OT Treshmen were greeTed in assembly by STudenT Body PresidenT Rich Nave. The TradiTional Frosh RecepTion was given in our honor. AT The door, we received blue and pink idenTiTicaTion ribbons. Our Treshman class sTarTed ouT by elecTing Jerry Miller as presidenT. Two represenTaTives To The Freshman Council were chosen by each Freshman orienTaTion class. We published The Trosh paper., The Green Pea, wiTh PaTTy Lou Fahrner as head oT The publiciTy commiTTee. We proved To all we were preTTy ambiTious Treshmen, buT in mosT respecTs we Tollowed in The TooTsTeps of oTher Tresh- man classes. We gaThered signaTures on l-lello Day, helped sell magazine subscrip- Tions in order To pay Tor our Searchlight and aTTended The TooTball games. We admired our TooTball heroes and looked wiTh awe aT The high and mighTy seniors. One OT our greaTesT disappoinTmenTs was The loss oT The Tam game Tor The TirsT Time in seven years. AlThough San RaTael spiriT was high, The Indians had The bigger and beT- Ter Team. ElecTions were held aT The end oT The Tall semesTer and Lloyd SmiTh was elecTed sTudenT body presidenT. Under The capable leadership oT The new spring Trosh cl-ass prexy, Herb WesT, commiTTees were appoinTed and regular meeTings began. Tom Cagwin, boys' vice-presidenT, had his round-up commiTTees plan movies To raise money Tor The Treasury. AT The end oT baskeTball season, our B baskeTball Team won The undispuTed cham- pionship oT The NorTh Bay League. The Trosh, as parT oT The school clean-up commiTTee, helped To improve our grounds. During March, The halls OT S.R.l-LS. were nearly deserTed as a greaT maioriTy of The sTudenTs wenT To San Francisco To see The Freedom Train. SOPHOMORE YEAR There was a greaT change in The behavior of The sTudenTs in Their sophomore year Trom Their Treshman year: all signs of meekness were gone. There was also a greaT change in The halls oT S.R.l'l.S. Asiwe enTered The halls, we were greeTed wiTh shades oT green, rose, yellow, and blue walls. The colors made everyThing seem brighTer and less Tormal. Bill Russell was our sTudenT body presidenT. Tom Cagwin, presidenT oT The sophomore class, presided over The Sophomore Coun- cil meeTings in The Tall semesTer. Noon movies were given every oTher Friday in The LiTTle TheaTre and were well aTTended. Our beauTiTul swimming pool was Tinally compleTed-lsighl in The IaTe Tall, and by EasTer of '49, we were acTually swimming. We losT To Tam in TooTball This year, wiTh a score oT 25-O. The sTudenTs, however, showed more pep and TighT Than They had in a long Time. We resolved we would iusT have To waiT unTil nexT year To beaT Tam. The members oT The sophomore class began To parTicipaTe in The many acTiviTies oT The school. The boys were inTeresTed in sporTs: TooTball, baskeTball, baseball. and Track. OTher members OT The class belonged To The Scholarship SocieTy, Ra Ravas, Les CouTs, Marching Band, The Boys' OrganizaTion and The Girls' League. Floyd WhiTe, our spring class presidenT, conTinued To raise money Tor TuTure acTivi- Ties by having noon movies every oTher week. Dick Reece was chosen To lead us as spring sTudenT body presidenT.
