THE SEIIIUIT FRESHMAN YEAR On The opening day oT school in SepTember, l947, a mighTy Timid group OT Treshmen were greeTed in assembly by STudenT Body PresidenT Rich Nave. The TradiTional Frosh RecepTion was given in our honor. AT The door, we received blue and pink idenTiTicaTion ribbons. Our Treshman class sTarTed ouT by elecTing Jerry Miller as presidenT. Two represenTaTives To The Freshman Council were chosen by each Freshman orienTaTion class. We published The Trosh paper., The Green Pea, wiTh PaTTy Lou Fahrner as head oT The publiciTy commiTTee. We proved To all we were preTTy ambiTious Treshmen, buT in mosT respecTs we Tollowed in The TooTsTeps of oTher Tresh- man classes. We gaThered signaTures on l-lello Day, helped sell magazine subscrip- Tions in order To pay Tor our Searchlight and aTTended The TooTball games. We admired our TooTball heroes and looked wiTh awe aT The high and mighTy seniors. One OT our greaTesT disappoinTmenTs was The loss oT The Tam game Tor The TirsT Time in seven years. AlThough San RaTael spiriT was high, The Indians had The bigger and beT- Ter Team. ElecTions were held aT The end oT The Tall semesTer and Lloyd SmiTh was elecTed sTudenT body presidenT. Under The capable leadership oT The new spring Trosh cl-ass prexy, Herb WesT, commiTTees were appoinTed and regular meeTings began. Tom Cagwin, boys' vice-presidenT, had his round-up commiTTees plan movies To raise money Tor The Treasury. AT The end oT baskeTball season, our B baskeTball Team won The undispuTed cham- pionship oT The NorTh Bay League. The Trosh, as parT oT The school clean-up commiTTee, helped To improve our grounds. During March, The halls OT S.R.l-LS. were nearly deserTed as a greaT maioriTy of The sTudenTs wenT To San Francisco To see The Freedom Train. SOPHOMORE YEAR There was a greaT change in The behavior of The sTudenTs in Their sophomore year Trom Their Treshman year: all signs of meekness were gone. There was also a greaT change in The halls oT S.R.l'l.S. Asiwe enTered The halls, we were greeTed wiTh shades oT green, rose, yellow, and blue walls. The colors made everyThing seem brighTer and less Tormal. Bill Russell was our sTudenT body presidenT. Tom Cagwin, presidenT oT The sophomore class, presided over The Sophomore Coun- cil meeTings in The Tall semesTer. Noon movies were given every oTher Friday in The LiTTle TheaTre and were well aTTended. Our beauTiTul swimming pool was Tinally compleTed-lsighl in The IaTe Tall, and by EasTer of '49, we were acTually swimming. We losT To Tam in TooTball This year, wiTh a score oT 25-O. The sTudenTs, however, showed more pep and TighT Than They had in a long Time. We resolved we would iusT have To waiT unTil nexT year To beaT Tam. The members oT The sophomore class began To parTicipaTe in The many acTiviTies oT The school. The boys were inTeresTed in sporTs: TooTball, baskeTball, baseball. and Track. OTher members OT The class belonged To The Scholarship SocieTy, Ra Ravas, Les CouTs, Marching Band, The Boys' OrganizaTion and The Girls' League. Floyd WhiTe, our spring class presidenT, conTinued To raise money Tor TuTure acTivi- Ties by having noon movies every oTher week. Dick Reece was chosen To lead us as spring sTudenT body presidenT.
