Freshman Year We, as Freshmen, enTered high school Tilled wiTh enThusiasm. The Tormal greeTing given To us by The sTudenT body was The Freshman RecepTion. We were idenTiTied by brighT green bows. We were a very acTive organizaTion. A Freshman Council was elecTed, consisTing oT Two represenTa- Tives Trom each Democracy Nine Class, To draw up a consTiTuTion. The Social CommiTTee, headed by The girls' vice- presidenT, BeTTy BarTholow, planned To give parTies5 while The Roundup CommiTTee, Tormed and headed by The boys' vice-presidenT, Orson Dee, was To pro- vide enTerTainmenT Tor The Freshmen when The oTher clubs were having Their meeTings. The TradiTional Freshman paper, The Green Pea, was again or- ganized wiTh Bill Reece Tilling The iob oT ediTor. There were several Wednesday roundups and one big, successful noon dance. Tollowed by The cloThing drive Tor Europe. The Freshmen challenged The resT of The classes. The conTesT was a long, hard TighT, buT The Freshmen wenT ouT and scoured The Town Tor cloThes and won. To end The Tall semesTer, a big parTy was given. The TurnouT was large and The parTy was really en- ioyable. The Spring Roundup CommiTTee had iTs TirsT class roundup aT The showing oT The ski picTures in The High Sierra by Mr. Fred Hines. The commiTTee planned a varieTy oT TuTure roundups To provide enTerTainmenT every Wednesday Tor The resT oT The year. Among oTher acTiviTies, many oT The Freshmen parTicipaTed in larger school acTiviTies, such as The Yell Leader school To which abouT six oT our very acTive members belonged. They were Barbara Wad- low, RuTh RuTTino, PaT Farley, Dick Kachel, and Rose- marie Shelly. In The years To come, several proved Their eTTorTs were well worTh while by becoming as- sisTanTs and Head Yell Leaders. RuTh became an assisTanT and Rosemarie became Head Yell Leader. Also many TalenTed musicians Took parT in band, orchesTra, chorus, and marching band. They were, Joyce WaTkins, Marion Dee, Bob RoberTson, Jo Ann Herkner, Orson Dee. JaneT Braverman. Marilyn CarTer, Lil HildredTh, Joan TachoueT. Cay HodiTz, and Mary Jo BaxTer. The Les CouTurieres iniTiaTed a new idea oT having Freshmen girls as liTTle sisTers. The older girls waTched ouT Tor her liTTle sisTer and helped her as much as possible in becoming acquainTed wiTh The school. They Took Their Ii++Ie sisTers To dinners, parTies, and showed Them a good Time aT The annual Girls' Jinx. Many of our Freshmen boys showed promise as ouTsTanding aThleTes on TooTball, baseball, Track. and baskeTbaIl Teams. In TacT The C Track Team, which included The Freshmen: Orson Dee, Don Azevedo. and Bob Weber, won The N. B. L. Championship. The biggesT success oT The Freshman year was The passing oT The School Bonds. We all worked hard To puT This over To The public so ThaT we could have im- provemenTs on The buildings. and in I949, The year oT our graduaTion, we had our swimming pool. Sophomore Year Under The capable leadership oT PresiclenT Richard De TaTa. The class organized and gave a Sophomore Dance. This evening proved To be a memorable and enioyable one Tor The class and Their guesTs. A Tew weeks laTer, The sophomore paper was published and carried The announcemenT oT a conTesT To pick The proper name Tor The paper. There were ThirTeen sophomores on The San Rafael championship Bullpups' TooTball Team. LaTer in The year eighT more sophomores wenT ouT Tor baskeTball. We raTed, Too, in scholarship. ln The Tall OT '46, eleven oT The TwenTy-one members oT The Scholarship SocieTy were sophomores. In The Spring Term exacTly TiTTy per cenT oT The membership oT The Scholarship SocieTy was made up oT Sophomores. The brains were Orson Dee, who was The Fall and Spring Presi- denT, Marilyn CarTer, Jo Ann Herkner, PaT Mc- Kinney, Sally WrighT, BeTTy Rada, Bill Russell, Marilyn Slepnol, MargareT Bird, and Jack MacPhail. As a class we were noT only noTed Tor our brains alone, louT also Tor our leaders. BeTTy BarTholow and Sandra TibboTT were oTTicers in The Girls' League and Bill Russell and Bob Weber were oTTicers in The Boys' OrganizaTion. Several oT our dramaTically TalenTed sTudenTs namely Dixie FosTer, Sheldon STern, Joan TachoueT. and Dolores Holiday made Their debuT on The sTage during some oT our mosT successTul assem- blies, under The leadership oT Dave Ford and AI De Rosa. Junior Year Bill Reece was elecTed presidenT oT The Tall Term. The TirsT meeTing oT The Tall semesTer was called To discuss senior class sweaTers. Green sweaTers were decided upon. The sweaTers, which arrived a Tew weeks laTer, were The highlighT oT The Tall semesTer. Bill HunT was The class' choice Tor presidenT. ln order To raise suTTicienT Tunds Tor The class' TuTure acTiviTies, and wiTh inTenTions oT purchasing a me- morial Tor Mr. Hill, The class sponsored a Tun-nighT. This Tun-nighT Took place in boTh oT The high schools' gyms and consisTed of dancing, and playing games such as ping pong, bingo, cards and oTher games. The main acTiviTy underTaken by The iunior class This year was, oT course. The Junior-Senior Prom. The plans Tor The prom were planned and carried ouT by The Junior and Senior STanding CommiTTees and were conducTed under The auspices oT The P: T. A. IT was held aT The AlTa Mira HoTel in SausaliTo and was a huge success. As a class oT juniors, we were very ouTsTanding in sTudenT aTTairs. Our own vivacious Marion Dee was
