HISTORY ' '9- Under the direction of Dave Ford, our student body Con- stitution was revamped and brought up to date. Dave created a new student body office called the Commissioner of Social Affairs whose duty was to see that there was always some- thing doing socially. Millard Everhart was appointed first commissioner. The Ra Ravas went on a weekend snow trip to Soda Springs. After the trip was over, there were a few girls seen limping around the halls. During the course of the year, the girls voted to do away with uniform sweaters and to wear colored sweaters. Early in Iune, the Iunior-Senior Prom was given by the juniors. lt was held in the gym and was entitled Prom in Pastel. SENIOR YEAR When school opened on that eventful day in September. l947, we found the student body under the able leadership of President Rich Nave. Our student body started operating un- der the new 1947 Constitution. Under this Constitution, the Student Council, a body composed of the student body officers and each of the class presidents, is the main governing body, the senate taking second place. So far, we think this new sys- tem has worked well. George Grasso made a very capable senior class presi- dent in the fall. A noon dance was held by the class to boost its treasury funds. The end of a favorable football season saw the valiant Bulldogs go down fighting before the league-leading Tam ln- diansg our first loss to Tarn in seven years. The final score of the massacre was Tam 32, San Rafael 7. The Tam-San Rafael Inter-School Relations Committee was formed and drew up a Constitution, with the purpose in view of bettering relations between the two schools, and to provide money to pay for damages to either school incurred in the past. The Tam-San Rafael Exchange Dance held the night following the Big Game was one of the projects sponsored by the committee. Eight seniors were chosen to take the Pepsi-Cola Scholar- ship examination in December. Those chosen were: Christine Christensen, Ed Gardner, Harold Hildebrant, Wayne Ken' nedy, Dick Mathews, Iulia Rice, Kathleen Vereker, and len' sen Young. The Block SR was reorganized through the efforts of Mr. Miller. Don Walling was elected prexy. In December, eight representatives of our student body went to Santa Rosa for the North Bay League meeting that was held there. The class of '49 decided to have green and white as their senior colors. Christmas was saddened as far as San Rafael High School was concerned, for on that day our beloved gym custodian, Mr. Ray Hill, passed on. ln Ianuary the Sportsmen started the leap year off right with a turn-about dance. Lloyd Smith was elected spring student body 'president after a hotly contested election which the student body de- cided was run off illegally. A re-election was held, and the results were almost identical with the first results. The best dance of the year, at this writing, was the annual formal Cotton Ball, mutually sponsored by the Ra Ravas and the Les Couts, and held at Masonic Hall. Ed Gardner was elected president of the senior class for the spring semester. Our B basketball team won the undisputed champion ship of the North Bay League. The championship first string was composed of the following seniors: Frank Sabbatini, Iacf: Vallee, Rich Nave, Leo Andrade, and Charlie Huddleston. A Cleanup Committee was formed to improve our grounds. A panel discussion that turned into a debate was held be- fore the student body twice on the question: ls a student court necessary in San Rafael High School: and, if so, how will it work? Those participating in it were: Student Body President Lloyd Smith, chairman: proponents: Ed Gardner, Wanda Dun- can, and lane Shields: opponents: Clyde Bradley, Bruno Fran- chetti, and Ray Reed. On Monday, March 15, the halls of S.R.H.S. were nearly deserted as a great majority of the students went to San Francisco to see the Freedom Train. The Iunior-Senior Ball was given under the auspices of the San Rafael High School P.-T.A. Bill Hunt, Iunior prexy, and Ed Gardner, Senior prexy, were general chairmen for the ball. Our Senior Class, differing from all previous senior classes, will be the first class to graduate on the turf. We leave with the threat of the draft and the possibility of war hanging over our heads. To you, the new up-and-coming seniors, we leave the re' sponsibility of holding up the reputation of S.R.H.S. and we wish you the best of luck. lf you follow in our footsteps, you can't miss! ln spite of our being glad to graduate, we leave ye olde institution with lumps in our throats and aches in our hearts.
