FRESI-IMAN YEAR On the opening day of school in September, l944, a mighty timid group of freshmen walked into the halls ofS.R.H.S.'I'hese freshmen turned out to be the largest frosh class in San Rafael's history and also the best. The annual Frosh Re- ception went over with a bang as did every other activity that we, as frosh, had anything to do with. Don Collins was S. B. Prexy for our first semester inside the walls. The Varsity Football team brought home a championship and topped it off by beating Tam 20 to 12. We proved that we were the best class in school by win- ning a war bond drive contest. We benefited from the contest by winning the 585.00 first prize. With the help of Mr. Tardy, Dot Simon, and Dot Cooper, we printed our own frosh newspaper, the Green Pea. During our frosh year San Rafael lost its beloved Major Cuffe. An assembly was held in his honor and all students wishing to attend his funeral were excused from school. Three new organizations were formed. The Nu Beta Sigma or Music Club, the Rally Committee, and the Yell Leaders' School. Bill Baglietto was S. B. Prexy during the spring semester. The C track team, composed of frosh, came in second place in the N. B. L. SOPHOMORE YEAR It was a very different group of students who started their sophomore year from those that had begun their freshman year, meek and timid. All timidness had been replaced by bold confidence. Maybe you remember Nave, Sabbatini 6 Co. or better yet those twin terrors oi the halls, Harry Thorn- ton and Bob Thorsen! Franco Guidici was S. B. Prexy during the fall semester. The Varsity Football team took second place in the N. B. I.. and whipped Tam 14 to 6. Leo Andrade was elected class. prexy and held the office for both semesters. The Sophomore Class paper, the Sophomore Buzz, was edited by Elmer Swanton, who did a grand job. A hayride to McNears Beach was held in order that we might enjoy the money we earned as frosh, selling war bonds. MP5 SENIOR CLASS We did all right in collecting old clothes in a drive to help the people of Europe. Dick Caletti was Student Body Prexy in the spring semester. We sold candy in the cafeteria in order to make some money for the class treasury. Everybody remembers the horrible results of the various club initiationsg especially the scalped members of the Sportsmen. During the spring we had a small-pox scare and all the students were vaccinated. We came in first in the San Rafael City School Bond Drive contest. The bond issue was passed. Our mighty mite C track team brought home a track championship from the N. B. L. held at St. Helena. Those getting gold track shoes were: Rich Nave, Frank Sabbatini, Harry Thornton, Buck Azevedo, Orson Dee, and Bob Weber. JUNIOR YEAR Our junior year started off with an almost all-junior par- ticipation on the B football team and won the N.B.L. cham- pionship. Our Varsity team, after going through an extremely bad year, ended the season in grand style, trouncing Tam for the seventh straight year, with a score of 12 to 7. Rich Guidici was Student Body Prexy for the fall semester. Don Walling led us as Iunior Prexy during the fall semes- ter. Mr. Gulick was appointed adviser to the junior class, to continue as such through our senior year. Our fall semester was a sad one, in that we lost Mr. James Haynes, a teacher whom everyone liked and admired, and two of our fellow classmates, Iim Hurt and Iack West, both through automobile accidents. We helped in raising funds for the Searchlight by selling magazine, subscriptions. Dave Ford was elected Student Body prexy for the spring semester. We thought him to be one of our best and wittiest prexys in our school's history. For the spring semester, Frank Fradelizio was elected to lead us. Our senior sweaters arrived, pearl-grey and red, with a '48 block. At the annual Barn Dance, sponsored by the Ra Ravas, a red model T was given as the door prize. Dick Mathews, a prominent junior, won the N.B.L. tennis singles championship.
