aT a Junior Class meeTing so ThaT we mighT have Them aT The beginning oT our Tall semesTer. A member oT our class, Dave Ford, was chosen winner oT The Lions' Speech ConTesT and was presenTed wiTh a wrisT waTch. Three oTher com- peTed in This conTesT, Two oT Them being Juniors, Dolores Cooper and Cole Blease. The Junior ediTors published one issue oT The Red 'n' WhiTe To geT an idea oT The TuTure iob ahead oT us. Alice Borzini, LisTon Sabraw, and KenTon STuve were Those in line Tor Taking over in Their senior year. The annual CounTy Fair Day and Barn Dance Took place on March The 29Th, which was, and always has been, a success. The smallpox epidemic in The Bay Area was handled by The schools, and Tree shoTs To prevenT smallpox were given To all oT us who had our parenTs' consenT. The all imporTanT Bond ElecTion, in which The sTudenTs canvassed The Town To geT The people To voTe, was passed and now our dreams will come True. The Junior-Senior Prom was held on June 7Th. This year boTh dances were combined, making iT one big dance. So we Turned our backs upon our Junior year and Taced Torward Toward The payoTT, The cul- minaTion oT our years oT hard labor, our gradua- Tion Trom high school. SENIOR YEAR I946-I947 Our Senior Year rolled around wiTh Rich Giudici as Prexy and all oT us wearing our Senior sweaTers. eiTher red or whiTe. The enrollmenT The TirsT week oT school showed The ToTal number oT boys 28 more Than ThaT oT The girls. PreTTy unusual! We organized our class by elecTing Charles Richesin as PresidenT, LisTon Sabraw as Boys' Xgce-PresidenT, and Tui Wong as Girls' Vice-Pres- i enT. Our TooTball season ended succe-ssTully by our Taking The LighTweighT and VarsiTy TooTball games away Trom our rival TamiTes. This year's Big Game was our sevenTh successive win over our TradiTional enemy . The LighTweighT Team cov- ered iTselT wiTh glory during The TooTball season, ending wiTh a perTecT score. having won The N.B.L. Championship. Many oT Those on The Team laTer received The coveTed gold Toofballs They had so valianTly ToughT Tor. The Teams were laTer honored by a Turkey dinner and dance. The lvla- ioreTTes were sTunning in Their new cosTumes aT The games This year. Three Tragedies ThaT leTT The whole school sTunned and Teeling a deep loss were The unTimely deaThs oT Two oT our Tellow Seniors, Jim l-lurT and Jack WesT, boTh vicTims oT auTomobile acci- denTs, and ThaT oT lvlr. James l-laynes who had resigned because oT ill healTh The previous Term. November arrived and our Senior picTures were Taken. Some oT The class had Them Taken in cap and gown in which The class will graduaTe in June. Also This year saw changes in girls' uniform. AT The polls They voTed To wear colored sweaTers. We had discussed This change Tor several years and Tinally decided The issue. Our eighTh and Tinal semesTer broughT Dave Ford as our new STudenT Body PresidenT. Cole Blease was elecTed our new Senior Class Presi- denT. Early in The spring semesTer we were measured Tor our caps and gowns, one oT The many Things To be Taken care oT in preparaTion Tor graduaTion. This year iT seemed as Though There were quiTe a Tew dances and good ones, Too, such as The Red 'n' WhiTe, The l-lop, Blossom Time. and The Barn Dance, noT To menTion many oThers. So Tar, The improvemenTs noTed as a resulT oT The bond elecTion have been a new lighTing sysTem in porTions oT The buildings and veneTian blinds appearing aT some oT The windows. Red 'n' WhiTe garbage cans made Their appearance on l-ligh STreeT and some on The beaTen paTh, To keep such Things as lunch bags, banana peels, eTc., Trom deTracTing Trom The neaT appearance oT our school. Speaking oT l-ligh STreeT, one oT The noTable changes ThaT Took place our lasT semesTer was The long line oT hoT rods, ieeps and civilized looking cars parked in spaces provided Tor Them by The ciTy sTreeT deparTmenT. The concluding social TuncTions oT our Senior year were The lvloThers' Tea and The Senior Ball, puT on by The combined Junior and Senior classes. To some, Friday The ThirTeenTh is mosT un- lucky, buT To The graduaTing class oT '47 iT is our lucky day-spelling Tinis To Tour years oT happy days, hard sTudy, and work well done- we hope! To you, The new up-and-coming Seniors. we leave The duTy oT carrying on The TradiTions, privileges and honors oT San RaTael High. May you accomplish all This wiTh due solemniTy and devoTion To our Alma lvlaTer.

FRESHMAN YEAR The Senior Class of I947 enTered San Rafael High School in I943, and anTicipaTed a happy four years ahead of Them. To welcome The class, The Freshmen were given The Freshmen RecepTion. As Freshmen we do remember our STudenT Body PresidenT, John Rossi, wiTh his brighT red hair. To beTTer lcnow our schoolmaTes, a Hello Day was held in which everyone goT as many signa- Tures as possible. The dances during our Freshman year included The Barn Dance, ChrisTmas Dance, and The COT- Ton Ball. The Girls' Jinx was given, and much enThus- iasm was shown by all who aTTended and had a good Time. The boys were given oTher lcinds of enTerTain- menT To familiarize Them wiTh The school. We all experienced our firsT formal in San Rafael High School and iT was a real success. lT was called The SweeThearT's Prom. Ed Dillman was elecTed PresidenT on February 3, when he deTeaTed Connie Morey, his final opponenT. So ends our Freshman year, wiTh everyone anTicipaTing The nexT semesTer when we would be THE SOPHOMORESH. OUR SOPHOMORE YEAR I944-I945 The sophomore year in high school and college, we recognize, as did lasT year's senior class, as The one leasT remembered in afTer years. There- fore, lilce The previous class, our Book of Mem- ories has liTTle To record during The monThs of our sophomore year. We reTurned and welcomed our new fall STu- denT Body PresidenT, Don Collins. San Rafael High Bulldogs defeaTed Tam 20-l2, and won The NorTh Bay League Championship. The lasT VarsiTy Championship daTed back To l937, when we Tied for The NorTh Bay League TiTle. We, under The direcTion of Miss Cunningham and sponsored by The P.-T.A., had The SaTurday dances aT The E. STreeT Grammar School going again wiTh inTeresT shown by The sTudenTs. A very successful play was sTaged on Feb- ruary 2. lT was called, And Came The Spring. The reTiring STudenT Body PresidenT Turned The gavel over To The newly-elecTed presidenf, Bill BaglieTTo. ....g Through The eTforTs of Dolores Cooper and Earl WhiTe of our class, who were among The chairmen on The STudenT commiTTee, we opened The Teen Age CanTeen on February 24-Th, which was a very memorable evenT. An enThusiasTic group of sTudenTs formed a music club called The Nu BeTa Sigma . A memorial assembly was held on April l8, I'-745, in honor of Major CuTfe who, because of his friendliness, was lilced by everyone. The whole STudenT Body parTicipaTed in The drive for old cloThes for The ruined counfries of Europe. AlTogeTher The sTudenTs gaThered 6,5l6 pounds, which was l,5l6 pounds over our seT quofa. During The San Rafael CiTy Schools Bond Drive, our Sophomore class came in second place. JUNIOR YEAR We came baclc To school again in SepTember of l945 as Juniors, happy ThaT The acTual firing in World War ll had ceased, and wiTh Franco Giudici as Prexy. The firsT Red 'n' WhiTe came ouT on SepTem- ber l9, l945, wiTh Sheila McKinney iTs ediTor, and The paper ready for a big year aT San Ra- fael High. Our class organized OcTober 29, I945, wiTh lvlr. Dresia as Junior advisor. Tex Richesin was elecTed President Tui Wong, Girls' Vice-Presi- denT3 Del Hughes, Boys' Vice-PresidenT: LisTon Sabraw, SecreTary7 and Dana BarTleTT as Trea- surer. FooTball closed for The season wiTh The Bull- dogs defeaTing The Tam Indians I4 To 6 in a hard-foughT game. One rainy day The 'Big Six , Two of whom were Juniors, made a sTarTling announcemenT To The school-They had discovered a swimming pool beTween High STreeT and The U.S.O. How- ever, upon closer inspecTion, iT Turned ouT To be noThing buT a lowly mud puddle. The spring semesTer sTarTed ouT wiTh Diclc CaleTTi elecTed as new STudenT Body PresidenT. Also, our new Junior Prexy, Bob Duncan. The Mid-WinTer Formal was held on January 26, I946, aT The Ross CommuniTy House which was sponsored by The Les CouTurieres and Ra Ravas. The CloThing Drive ConTesT in February of '46 was won by The Frosh, buT The Juniors, who were aT The boTTom of The lisT oT classes in The earlier sTages of The drive, came ouT second. NOT bad!
