Boys wore wool Gauchos. Girls wore turtle-neck sweaters, scarves, and wide. wide belts. Ever-popular cashmere, over a wool shirt. Cardigans with collar- scarves worn on skirt for extra color. A vest over a Gaucho. New crepe soles-tan shoes, too. The Long and short oi it! -Poodle cut-vs. I-Iorse's tail. Boys sport suede jackets. So did the Girls! Bright print shirts and denim trousers. Sleeveless blouses and gay, spring flowers. Gay flats, bucks, and loaiers.

PRESENTING---E -BOARD The big show started last fall under the direction of Bingmaster lim Clark, President of the Associated Students. Ex-Board, the real heart of the San Mateo circus, was promptly organized with one student from each home room and all Commissioners and student body officers. A real menagerie! First social event on the program was the act presented by the Dance Com- mission, a Halloween dance called Which ls Witch? The Bally Commission kept up the lively pace by planning and executing many rallies, of which the Little Big-Game rally was an outstanding attraction, featuring football stars Harry Hugasicm and Gary Kerkorian of Stanford University. The dare-devil Freshman Commissioners succeeded in taming the Freshman, which constituted the largest class in the history of the school. The Little-Big Came rally, one of the fiercest duels on the program, was staged with some of the best spirit the school has seen. One of the most enjoyable events was the assembly at which the Cal Tjader trio entertained the school with progressive music. A welcoming com- imittee was started to show new arrivals the mysteries of the Big Top Calias San Mateo Highl. ln February Brad Stark succeeded lim Clark and led the San Mateo High students through another big show. Brad gave everyone a chance to play a part in the performance by allowing students to sign up for commissions and over two hundred students were appointed from all four classes for the commis- sions. On March 29th visitors arrived at San Mateo High, and many members of the San Mateo troupe entertained the student leaders who had come for the PAL Conference. All was not work at San Mateo this last semester though, recreation was provided in the form of a noon-time recreation program which included badminton, pingpong, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and movies. All-school fun nights added to the gaiety, and rallies added to our school spirit. The Dance Commission, with originality and daring, held informal dances in our gym for fifty cents a couple, a first in the history of San Mateo High. Early in May one of the best acts on the program was presented-an all- school carnival which meant fun and excitement for everyone. Booths were sponsored by the various clubs and organizations of the school. A dance, talent show, and athletic events held the students spellbound. During this semester many assemblies were held to educate and entertain the students, including such programs as the I. C. dance band and a presentation by the F. B. I. ln exchange for entertainment offered to them by the San Mateo performers, talent shows were scheduled from other PAL schools. But even members of the Big Top are susceptible to the weather, and several times the heat in Room 8 made it necessary for Ex-Board to meet on the front lawn of the school. Everyone can say proudly that San Mateo put on a truly fine show this past year, one which every student may well remember with nostalgia in the years to come.
