FUR E W U R D . .. THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH Step right, up fellows and girls, see the wonders of the world-amazing sights you'll never see again! These words fell on the ears of lohnny Bearcat as he timidly approached the huge circus tent. The magnetic barker drew Iohnny irresistibly toward the entrance. Then, happily, lohnny deposited his money and bounded inside. Let's do likewise, readers of the Elm, your money has been deposited-come inside! W'ho knows what untold wonders you may see! Follow Iohnny Bearcat into the Elm, which has been likened this year to a circus. Once inside, what will be first to greet your eyes? Will it be the officers and commissioners, putting the students through their paces? Will it be the faculty, teaching the old students new tricks? To each reader the Elm will signify something different, and to every reader Chopes the Elm staffi, some- thing exciting. There goes Iohnny into a noisy row of cubicles, each proclaiming a greater wonder than the last. If you follow him closely, you will see, in one, members of the Spanish Club gyrating in the Hat Dance, in another, the Latin Clubbers racing their chariots, and in the third, the French Club singing Allouette. But these are only a few. Let the wisdom of the Scholarship Society members astound you, the skill of those in the Block SM impress you, and the efforts of the Footlighters entertain you. And after all this, many more remain. Now follow Iohnny into the huge main tent, where the Calliope is shrilling an invitation to one and all. There you will see every manner of animal Cother- wise known as students! dancing in weird and varied styles to the melodies of many orchestras. And if you look more closely still, you may recognize the gala social events of the season, Which ls Witch? , the French Clubs' Le F lacon de Neige, and other gatherings which were so much fun. But look ahead! What is this amazing exhibition of skill? The strong men are performing in the next tent-what a sight! Watch that husky fellow kick a football two miles, and that muscular swimmer flash through the water. Pay attention to the track men hurdling insurmountable obstacles and circling the track with the speed of light. It is easy to linger here for many hours, but Iohnny is continuing on his way. Last, of course, comes one of the most exciting events-the circus Bogue's Gallery, where each student can see his own face. For ahead lies the space reserved for the Classes. But Iohnny Bearcat cannot guide you all the way. He must leave you now-for you are on your own, Elm readers. May your journey through the pages of the Elm be a pleasant one!
