What ITIEIKES 5317 LOf'6'l7ZO ClfffEI'9l'7 f? San Lorenzo, named after Saint Lawrence, was fOUl'ld9d in the 'l800's. Al- though small in population and territory compared to our neighboring areas, San Lorenzo is home to many Whwmmm firsts, such as the first Mer- vyn's department store and DGNG vi's camera store. Although San Lorenzo is unincorporated it has its own school district, fire de- partment, Little League or- ganization and Home Own- ers Association. Hangouts are found scat- tered across San Lorenzo and nearby areas. Whether it be Kennedy Park, Berekley, Castro Valley Boulevard or Round Table Pizza, people go to where they belong or want to belong. Like a majority of com- munities, San Lorenzo pro motes athletic programs in baseball, so ftball and soccer which shapes our youth physically and prepares them for the future. wha t makes San Lorenzo special is not what it is by itself, but how it is 3 community. lt is close to a major metropolitan area rich in arts and culture. The East Bay is home to many leading U What makes San Lorenzo special is not what is is by itself, but how it is a community. H il7Sl'itUl'iOl'lS of the r7al'iOl'l. We reflect on that end. We play, grow and are part of the area we live in, stated Arroyo senior Jennifer Wee. The most predominant feature that I see in San Lorenzo is the community working and joining together as one, said Kristen stracner a senior at San Lorenzo High. Over the years, San Lorenzo has seen some changes, most recently the repaving of some roads in the village area. The remo- deling of Festival Cinemas, Garibaldi Studios, Where- house Records and Tapes and Southland Mall are also noticeable changes. San Lorenzo is not just another spot next to the water, but a changing and expanding community.
