It is af place where the modern student spends three years fitting into a group made up of so many dissimilar types as to confuse the outsider and frighten the newcomer. But, to the student, the school is his world and his home away from home. No significantly broad area of study is omitted from the school of today, for the demands of a complex modern society are not in themselves narrow. 5 TRQKS M tiiii l E .ig fifw f fi 3 W W 5 l M5 er of fvslenvei Bertram P51110-fl' Fkfuxnxk + me -:vi , f'M0f 9'-'3 !s,', ,a v sis a -4 33 -X X -9 The modern high school is as aca- demic by nature as its predecessor of decades pastg it has also evolved a new character and personality which is all too often understood only by its teachers and its students. On these pages we see a reflection of a small segment of the larger area of study at San Leandro. In succeed- ing pages we see primarily the other face of the school, less important, perhaps, than the disciplines of the classroom, but nonetheless a reflec- tion of the function of the school annual. What do these hushed words mean? To many this is the result of hard work and three years of dreams. Begin- ning with the fun-packed Senior Picnic and ending with the never to be forgotten Senior Ball, the seniorls life at San Leandro is a whirl of preparation for social activity: for college, for trade school, and for work. Senior year is the year of all years . . . full of the fun and activities looked forward to since the 9th grade, and the time for serious preparation for life after graduation. Sudenly seniors realize that their grades need improving for entrance into the college of their choice. There are even courses to take that they had never dreamed of taking before. But there is always time left for the many activities. This year's graduating class was no exception as they whirled through dances, picnics, dinners, and assorted types of mischief. Wlany moods are expressed in senior activities: picnic fun with its beach clothes, baseball games, swimming, and the scramble for food, con- trasted with the dignity of the senior dinner with its dressy clothes, turkey, entertainment, and p.j. parties. Through each and every activity the seniors give their all and have their best time because each event is the last they may share before graduation. All effort is put forth in order to make the year more memorable.-All this com- prises a variety of talent, interest, cooperation, and activities which to the senior make up a balanced year of fun. This variety of mood and spirit of each activity is portrayed on this page. W 037' In Y -2 X I ' ',,, ,,.v'A N x N , t 1 e e - lf, is .V gkL,. ,,,,,f,. ,uz',,lh!A,l 1 lllr Us 1 . 'ft ,,.. - e ' ,..
