Any woman interested in tennis, swinuTiinC archery, fencing, modern dancing, or any other activity, may improve her technique in the sport of her choice through the medium of the WAA. The government of the group is managed by a council of seven women elected from the student bodv at large. From these councilors, the officers are elected. To supplement this group each of the various clubs under the general jurisdiction of the central organization elect representatives who serve on the council and report back to them the business of the council. Both placed second at Drake, while Vasconcellos took Hrst place at Long Beach and Stuizeri tied for second San Jose competed in the Fresno Relays and CCAA meet before hanging up the spikes for the season. The Spartans, under their new mentor Walt McPherson. defeated San Diego State 8-2 and won a close 6 to 5 tilt from Fresno State for the only two conference wins of the season. They won four of their nine practice games, losing to USF, California, and Saint Mary s during the season Depending on Pitcher Tony Nasimento, veteran of three years, the Spartans looKed impressive in early season games. Nasimento was forced out tor the season when he dislocated his shoidder while umpiring a frosh game. With him went all hopes of a CCAA title, for the Spartans sadly needed a chucker who could go the entire nine innings Veterans Captain Harvey Rhodes, John Allen, Ben Frizzi, and Jack Fancher carried the Spartan s chances for a successful season. The rest of the team vas comprised of sophomores and junior college transfers. Newly elected baseball captain Ben Frizzi and John Allen, along with Rhodes, were the batting and fielding power for San Jose. Frizzi led his teammates at the plate witli a .529 average, followed by Rhodes with .519 and Allen ith a .512 average Nasimento, vhen not pitching, was used as a pinch hitter and finished the season with a .363 average, but he only competed in half the games played. San Jose loses only one man from this year s team.
