Butcher Commander Naval Sur- face Group Western Pacific enlisted in the Navy in 1948 and served as an Operations Specialist on board USS MIDWAY CCV-415 ln 1953 he was graduated from Marshall Univer- sity Huntington West Vwginia and was commissioned an ensign through the US. Navy Reserve Officers Training Corps Program. He has commanded four ships USS MOSOPELEA CATT-' 1583 USS CAMP CDER 2513 USS JOSEPHUS DANIELS CCG- 27j and USS OKLAHOMA CITY CCG-55 Other assignments mclude a tour in the Bureau of Weapons and three tours in the Oflice of the Chief of Naval Operations In July 1983 he assumed the duties of his present position including Com- mander Task Force SEVENIY THREE and in December 1983 assumed the duties as Commander Task Force SEVENTY FIVE Commodore Butcher congratultes SN Brady J. Ford who received a Letter of Appreciation during an awards cerem- ony proceeding a personnel inspection October I l. The Commodore personally presented 25 men with Letters of Appre- ciation for their efforts while deployed in the Indian Ocean. 'lhe crew started preparing for a departmental and personnel inspection soon after returning from the Indian Ocean. VADM James R Hogg, Com- mander of the U.S. Seventh Fleet, boarded the SAN JOSE while she was operating in the Indian Ocean July 1984. As part of a select visit to ships only operating in the Indian Ocean, the Admiral recognized both the importance of the SAN .lOSE's presence there and the tremendous performance of the crewmembers.
