R Final preparations had begung loading continued around the clock at NSC Oakland. We were underway again for Shasta's final contract trials and an exercise with USS Guitarro CSSN-6655. On August 14 we moored to the Ala- meda Reefer Piers -the last stop before WestPac. We commenced our final load out of frozen provisions. X While at the reefer piers we received the following message: C15 Your selection to receive the 1972 Battle Efficiency Award for your competitive group is noted with pleasure. C25 This award is confirmation of your readiness and superior perform- ance. Each officer and man may take pride in this award which you have earned through perserverance, dedication and professionalism. C35 Well Done.
