ef,.....v..u4-g.. I. V Y- We spent a two week up-keep period in Sase- bo. Japan. Three tours of the area provided an excellent opportunity to acquaint our- selves with Japanese customs and history. Touring l-lirado Island we saw Hirado Cas- tle built in 1704. Surrounded by outer stone walls, arrow and gun turrets the castle was also protected by over 50,000 Samurai war- riors living around it. The tours brought us to Arita. the center of the pottery industry in Japan for more than 350 years. On a brief stop at the Fukagawa Porcelain factory we watched the entire process of manufactur- ing and hand painting porcelain artifacts. The highlight of the tours was the trip to Na- gasaki. Our trip through the city included visits to the Peace Park, the Atomic Bomb Museum, a Confucian Chinese Temple and an aerial cable car ride for a panoramic view of the city and harbor. c.. ..-Aa.a..1-.- -V, -3 -,, ...tt SAMURAI WARRIOR i J : 'XM kf1g'Qz CABLE CAR ABOVE NAGASAKI 101
