W. S. Brandenberger, who is retiring this year. Throughout his forty-five years of service, thirty-eight of them in the Houston public school system, both as teacher and administrator, Mr. Brandenberger has created thousands of friends and admirers. In times of stress or trouble, Mr. Brandenbergeris humble faith is a pillar of strength. He is a potent influence for high standards and fair play, simply because he is a man who not only believes, but also practices what he preaches. When Mr. Brandenberger came to San Jacinto at the beginning of 1952, Dr. Moreland, the superintendent of the Houston public school system, said, '6Any school that Mr. Brandenberger heads is a friendly schoolf, Four and a half years have passed and through his devotion to his work, Mr. Branden- berger has proved the veracity of that statement ma11y times. His retirement this year is the loss of the thousands of future students who will never realize the kindness, the sincerity, and the humility of an unforgettable personality, Mr. YV. S. Brandenberger. V1 .4 2-I ,v .4 Av, -. fx -1 A4 Qt.. M ' -'-, I ff'---. itil' - if 1? 555: 's Aomumlsmmoizi CAMPUSOLOGY SPORTS, Q . 4. . 1-, .,. if !,,-r5,'.3-Q, if ab? The Future Business Leaders of San ,lacinto are composed. of those students taking commercial courses. This is their first year on the Campus, and they have already made a promising beginning. The purpose of a club of this kind is to acquaint the members with the advantages, hardships and rewards of the professions and careers they are preparing for. In the commercial courses, they will learn the mechanics of business. but in the Club they can learn the practical application of the principles they are taught. They will come in contact more with the actual problems of the business world, and together, in a friendly atmosphere of fellowship, discuss and figure ways to solve the problems. The idea of a Future Business Leaders, Club is one with limitless possibilities. It is now up to the members to decide whether or not the future students of San Jacinto will have an opportunity to belong to an organization which could be of invaluable aid to them, or whether they will have to stumble through some hardships alone. Between the bell's ring and the conductor's Silencel there is an ear-deafening activity with which even Times Square on Broadway cannot compete. The head-splitting shriek of a fatally injured saxophone reed, the drastically flat toot of a tuba, and the fervent, hopeless attempt of a trumpet to imitate Harry James all combine to give the most ubreathlessn sensations to be experienced-hearing and seeing the San Jacinto Band tune up. It sounds bad then, but an instant later, with slender baton poised in the air for a second and breaths drawn in, there is the tiniest fragment of silence, then music. It is music created by a group of people who have worked and worked hard for a long time. No little credit goes to Band Director William E. McGrath, who has helped make a superb musical group of the San Jacinto High School Band. awww' Q .9 'i ill? 5 'l'W'lRl,ER5---Right. lf-fr to right: :Krchie Keniincy. Mary Lou Hammock. For '55-'56 the club set about to carry out, not only its purpose of service, but also the added ideals of loyalty, courtesy. and scholarship. One has but to look about the building and over the club records to realize that all the standards have been upheld to the highest degree. The sponsors. the officers, the committee chairmen, and the club in general have just cause to be proud of the year's record. Each year the Boys' Booster Club plans an extensive program. They have interesting speakers at many of their meetings throughout the term. ln the Fall, the Club sells Cold Drinks after school. Later, they give their annual Christmas Dance, always a success. This Spring. in conjunction with the Girls' Booster Club. they gave a variety show. All of these activities met with the approval of the student body. G' . For the finals in November the girls were judged on poise, posture, good grooming, and natural beauty. The judges were Mrs. Margaret Lacy, Post Society Editor, Mrs. lsabell Gerhart, fashion retailer, Mrs. Mitzi Wayne, actress, Miss Budde, professional model, and Harris Johnson, photographer. For the first time you are able to see which girl was selected as the top beauty in each class, and we know you'll be pleased. I O Each high and low senior homeroom was able to select one girl and one boy as a nominee for each superlative election. Those receiving the most votes in the final election were named as this year's senior superlatives. ln order to be eligible to win, the students had to have maintained above average grades in their scholastic work and in their conduct, so, we can now say that we of San Jacinto are being well represented by our senior superlatives of 1956. The annual Spring Festival, or May Fete, held at San Jacinto is one of the out- standing features of the year. The presentation of each princess, prince, duchess, duke, the senior king and queen, along with other forms of entertainment enthralls the many people who come to see it every year. It is indeed an honor to be a member of the Spring Festival Court and the ceremony offers a beautiful sight.
