In the final stages of the scoring battle the fast Redskin blocking and running proved too much. The final rung on the climb was Ieff Davis whom the Bears humiliated with a 34 to 12 defeat. After playing on even terms the first half the Bruins virtually exploded in the second half to take control of the game. The sixpointers were made by Lang- ford, 2, Reynolds, 2, and the final T. This one point meant that instead ot get- ting a share of the City Crown, the Bears had to settle for third place. But the Bears had noth- ing to be ashamed of, for they played great ball the whole game. The line was tough cmd the backs determined, but it just wasn't in the cards for San Jacinto to win. Big Don Wilson proved himself future All-American material by playing a one man line very successfully. The touchdowns were made by Brooks, Langford, and a pass interception. The Bears did fine in their pre-season competition. They advanced to the semi-finals in the Pasadena tournament, and brought home the runner-up cup from the San Antonio tournament. The Bears drop- ped their iirst game in the I. C. tournament, but went on to win the consolation trophy. As the team swung into conference play, they found hard sledding. They ended the season with tour wins and six defeats. Claude Roach was high point man for the team with a sum total of 134 points. December 7- Impressive Pearl Harbor Day Services were held on the front campus. A grand group of students gave a wonderful program for the Youth Council today. Those who attended got a lot from it. DORO- THY D'INGIANNI got a bit confused-started call- ing her English Teacher Mr Wordsworth I December 8- 'ZZ 'Ll 'T' Huddle Hop announced MARMN oot- ball queen. Marlene is tlfeffujst junior ever to be elected queen. All San Iac mourns Reagan's loss to Sunset for the state championship. December 13- MR. PERKINS slipped today when he indicated he could tell his classes about the Spanish-Ameri- can War from personal experiences. Boxes were distributed by Youth Council members to begin our Ch.ristmas giving project. Fill them up, kids. December 14- Beautiful Christmas music by the combined chorus classes left the students inspired. There were problems, though. The cardboard sheep on the stage fell over. and a restless baby left the down- stairs laughing. December 15- ' If a strange person extends his hand to you, don't back away. lt's a proud senior showing off his ring. The GBC held a successful Christmas party for the orthopedics. There was entertainment and food. Blue and white was the decoration theme for the BBC Christmas dance in the ballroom-cafe- teria to the day attenders. December 16- The Youth Council was host to a party at the College Oaks Clubhouse. There was food, fun, and games for all. December 18- The rooms seemed empty Cthey almost werej as students left school to work. The D and B was en- tertained by the luckless for luckyj sophomores. December 19- Games took the place of studies in many of the classes, The speech students gave the English classes some Yule spirit with their inspiring recita- tions. Christmas music was had, too, as the chorus classes paraded through the halls. The Girls' Chorus made an impressive musical tree in the lunch room. Merry Christmas, everyone! Ianuary 2- Happy 1951 to everyone. lt's good to be back to school after the building, faculty, and students have had a grand rest. Everyone is sporting Christ- mas clothes whether they are on top or under- neath. Ianuary 4- Now it can be revealed. I. T. divulges that he did not want to kiss girls when he was a lad of 10. Ianuary 18- Well, shut my mouth. Here are the BEAR CAPADES of 1951, sponsored by the speech and drama departments. Highlight was a review of 1951 with one San Iac lovely and her escort representing each month. Orchids to the Houston Chronicle for that wonderful publicity. Ianuary 19- NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY installation and reception took up most of the afternoon. Seen that afternoon were the new members sprouting their shining keystones. New members of QUILL and SCROLL, honorary journalism fratemity, were announced at Miss Guth- rie's farewell party tonight. Congratulations to the lucky journalists. Ianuary 20 and 21- All San Iac students stayed home this week-end to study for finals. Didn't we. kids? Ianuary 23- Well. finals began today. There is nothing else to say. Ianuary 24- Why are so many students suffering with writers' cramps? Ianuary 25- ' Everyone breathed a big sigh of relief as one o'clock and the dismissal bell came around. Commencement night. Good luck, graduates. lanuary 26- Revelation Creport cardsj. A day of smiles and tears. Ianuary 28- 4 ingenious boys warmed themselves with a pri- vate bonfire before the entering bell rang. lanuary 30- When CHINK ANDREWS alphabetised MR. PER- KINS' class cards some how ROACH came after Andrews. Wait Chink you can't cheat the alphabet. February 5- Seen in the halls are ex-students back to say good-bye and take one last look at us. Our boys are off to the service. February 6- LAZAR GREENFIELD is the new president of the National Honor Society. He succeeds graduate IOHN LANCASTER. February 8- The Texas lunior Academy of Science has been reinstated at our ol' school. BILL WHITE, last term's prexy, remains at its head. February 12- New members were announced today by the Quill and Scroll Society. BERNICE BOZON, a double lucky new member, was elected president. February 13- Several registrations together for two and a half years were split up today. Old friends will miss seeing each other every morning. February 14- And a happy Valentine's Day to you. February 15- First assembly of the new term. Outstanding professional men tried to persuade us that we must all work hard and that their work would be best of all. February 16- Seen at school: Teachers and administrators scurrying around getting set for evaluation. February 20- Third, fourth, and fifth period classes seen emp- ty as Gauchos practice at the Coliseum for the Crip- pled Children's Ball. February 22- lmmodest manequin shocked, tickled. and scared journalists and their friends as she invades the press room until the dance Friday night. Our Gauchos shined Cthey used flashlightsj at the Shriners' Ball. February 24- Seen at school this Saturday were the foods' girls working for Sunday's evaluation tea. February 25- Our faculty and their evaluators met at an af- ternoon tea. February 26- Evaluation is in full swing. Foods' lab has its ovens full every minute. A student committee met with the evaluators to talk over the way they feel about their school. February 27- We are getting to recognize our new friends and visitors. A second meeting was held between students and evaluators. February 28- Evaluation is over for five years! The reports are in and the meetings are over. 1 March 5- San Iac students returned from a speech tourna- ment today with over onefourth of the prizes. Kids, we love you. March 6- Another victory: DON WILSON breaks record for the shot-put. CSan Iac placed fourth in entire track meety. March 8- Battle of wits was held today in class between I. T. LONG and BOB DANNENBAUM. Winner is yet to be announced. March 9- Iuniors beat the Seniors at their annual football game. Now Seniors! March 12- Beauty KAROLYN GOLIBART has been proclaim- ed Miss Houston for the third straight year. March 13- The Youth Council presented a program for Lamar's CSU at the Westheimer school this after- noon. March 14- The Iune graduating class elected BILL WHITE to lead it. BILLYE LITTLEPAGE drew vice-president: CHINK ANDREWS, secretary: and S, M. HALLIBUR- TON, treasurer. Mcach 15- Senior superlatives out! Look on the conservatory and see ii you agree with their choices. March 16- Student Council plans are really in the making! A group of students is holding meetings with MR. GATES during sixth period several times a week. Track Follies held tonight to entertain San Iac- ites and friends. Every week-end is now filled with parties for graduating seniors. When Monday comes everyone is ready for a restful week. March 22- Mrs. Glosup's chonxs classes presented an inspir- ing program of Easter music. A modem dance around the Cross by Mrs. Shaw's girls added to the impressiveness. We are out for the Easter holi- days! After months of suffering with a worn out typewriter, the Star was made happy when MRS. CHANEY put the machine back in working order as quick as could be. March 24- MARILYN DENTLER honored the Gauchos with a coke party at her home. April 20- MRS. GLOSUP presented her students in a won- derful operetta today. April ZS- Our Gauchos sweated through Competitive Drill today. Their hard work is at an end. Now come the weeks of wondering who came out ahead. April 27- The Gauchos celebrated their new freedom by presenting the Gaucho Gaities this evening. April 30- Gauchos make news again. Today they held their annual picnic. May 4- A rose festival was the theme of the awe-inspiring May Fete held this evening. The court could not be surpassed. May ll- The Gauchos held their banquet and ball to- night.' Congratulations to the new officers. You have our confidence. May 18- Picnicing again. This time its the Seniors who are taking time off for fun.
