DRINK AND THE MAN Me, now, I hain't no lawyer, but I'd a been a good one. Why, even when I was just a lad, my uncle, Zephriah, said I had the tongue of a preacher or lawyer in me haid and we hain't never been a right religious family, anyhoo. But let's get down to facts. Sixty years, man and boy, I been living in Okefanokle. And all these years, I ain't never seen a man what's been hurt by drink, yes, suh, not one mother's son. Why, man, liquor's good fer you. Good fer snake bites from inside and outside. Not only does it cure colds, but gout and cricks, as good as the spit on your stove. lf you feel too low, it makes you feel high, and if you feel high, you will feel low directly. l say start your young ones early on corn and they will live to be at least sixty afore they go blind like me, which is a common ailment around here. Jeremiah Jukes. William, in a fit insane, Hid his head beneath a train. You would be surprised to find I-low it broadened William's mind.
