Phil Polee flies while taking a iump shot. .7 ' ' 1 i lf. f '.- ss , , ' ul Anil M' I With special weapons like Phil Polee and Steve Johnson and the tactics of our entire team we deserve to be called the S.W.A.T. Team. We were undefeated in the preseason and took championships in both the Ramona and Kiwanis Tournaments. Steve Johnson was all tournament in both and M.V.P. in the Kiwanis Tournament. He was also named all CBL First Team Center. He was named MVP for the year, along with Phil Polee. Phil Polee was also all tournament in both the Ramona and Kiwanis Tournaments and he was named MVP in the Ramona Tournament. He was named First Team Forward. Steve Johnson set new school records in rebounds with 360 and in blocked shots with 95. Earl Jefferson was the third Spartan to be named all-tournament in the Kiwanis Tournament, and he was named all CBL Second Team Guard. Richard Hausner was named all CBL Honorable Mention. The Spartans continued to be undefeated until an unfortunate loss to Chaffey. Ken Johnson never got to play after the Ramona Tournament because of a bro- ken foot. The Spartan fans cheered their team on to victory after victory, giving them records of I0-0 for preseason, I2-3 CBL, I-I CIF and 23-4 overall. There were many close and exciting games but the highlight of the season was an 81- 46 win over Chaffey which put us in first place by ourselves. ln the CIF game with Edison High School the Spartans took their first CIF win. In the second CIF game against Muir of Pasadena the Spartans stayed close but lost only because of a weakened Steve Johnson, who had been ill. Next year's team looks very promising with three returning players: Gary Lunt, Ghris Bernardy, and Marcus Arnold, along with the undefeated Junior Varsity Team whose record was 23-0.
