Kneeling tl to ry: Manager Gary Carney, Bill Wells, Norman Bryant, Paul Cirinel li, Lawrence Chavez, David Duffy, Coach Petersen. NCAA champion San Francisco and Vocational had one thing in common this year: neither had a home court. In addition, Coach Petersen opened the season with only two returning lettermen, Captain and center Paul Muro and guard Bill Wells. Plagued by a skimpy bench and lack of height, the boys were hard-pressed throughout the season as they sought victories over some of the most uniformly impressive hardwood talent seen hereabouts in years. The Kiwanis Tournament is a notable example of their tremendous efforts in the face of these handicaps: Voca- tional extended semi-finalist San Dieguito to a bitter overtime effort before succumbing to their highly-touted foe, and in virtually every encounter saw sizeable leads dwindle and vanish because they had not the reserve strength to spell a hard-fighting, constantly-charging varsity. Most-Valuable-Man award went to Captain Paul Muro, who climaxed a great sports career at Vocational with this last brilliant court effort.
