TO THE CLASS OF l957 These three years since your arrival at the Gray Castle seem to have gone quite rapidly in many ways. They have been eventful and pleasant, with outstanding successes and in- teresting times interspersed with strenuous moments as well. Some 530 of you are graduating from your Fall l954 Sophomore Class of over 700 students. The drop-outs have been quite heavy to other senior high and adjustment schools, to jobs and the armed services and to other miscellaneous careers and destinations, Many of you have worked hard to earn your diploma and we are proud to be able to award it. Certainly your good habits and qualities that have made you successful here will be val- uable to you in your future years. W -437:13 3 'Egg S I am pleased to congratulate sen- iors of i957 in behalf of the ninety faculty members and to express our appreciation for your understanding, loyalty, good humor and friendly spirit. Many crises and challenges have been met successfully by your strong character. You have selected your leaders well so that commendation is due to them. Our activities have been varied and extensive, sometimes almost too many it seemed, in boys' and girls' sports, ROTC, and Sergeanettes, as working members of clubs, on the staffs of the Russ, the Gray Castle, and Lit Parade, and in valuable ac- tivities. Among these energetic stu- dent groups is the yearbook staff. We may not realize the work entitled in planning and building this fine book which is in our hands today and will mean so much in the future. To Mr. Henry Wiegand, the editors and staff, we say thank you for your fine contribution. In these last weeks l know that you all join with me in a feeling of gratitude to your many teachers, your counselor, activity sponsor or spon- sors and particularly at this time, to the senior sponsors, led by Mrs. Mar- ion Gilmore. The latter has given so generously of her time and strength and has so enthusiastically and con- sistently supported and worked with you seniors. The Faculty and under-classmen join together in wishing you of the Class of l957 the best in these months and years ahead and hope that you will visit us at the Old Gray Castle Principal from time to time.
