Executive fficer LCDR P.H. Case -.NVy LCDR Paul H. Case was born in Bristol, Conn., on 26 August 1952. He graduated fromjohn Bapst Preparatory High School, Bangor, Maine, in 1971. He then attended the College of the Holy Cross on an NROTC scholarship, and graduated in May 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was commissioned an En- sign. LCDR Case's first assignment was the ammunition ship USS BUTTE QAE 271 where he served as the Elec- tronics Material OfHcer and Assistant First Lieutenant. Subsequent sea tours have included duty as the Elec- tronics Officer aboard the destroyer USS MANLEY QDD 9401, Weapons Officer aboard the frigate USS AYLWIN QFF 10811, and First Lieutenant aboard the amphibious as- sault ship USS NASSAU QLHA 41. LCDR Case had his first shore duty in 1980 when he was assigned an an instructor at the Naval Officer Candi- date School in Newport, R.l., where he taught seamanship and naval warfare. He is a graduate of the Surface Warfare Officer School Command Department Head Course, and the Armed Forces Staff College. He served as USS SAMUEL GOMPERS' Executive Officer from May 1988 to May 1990. He was then assigned to duty with thesloint Chiefs ofStaff, in Washington, D.C. LCDR Case is married to the former Alice L. VanPet- ten of Virginia Beach. Ya. They have one daughter, Sarah Elizabeth, who was born in 1985. 8 Executive Officer 1 a

ommandin fficer C s CAPT Amerault . . VY CAPT Amerault was graduated from the US. Naval Academy, and commissioned an Ensign in the Navv on 9 june 1965. After receiving his commission, CI.-Xlfl' .-Xmerault served at sea aboard the destrover USS MASSEY QDD 7783 as Gunnery Officer and as First Lieutenant. This tour was highlighted by a circurnnavigation ol the globe and Lt tour on the Naval Cunfire support gun line off ofSouth Yiet- nam. He then was assigned as CDfticer-in-Charge of Patrol Craft Fast 52, and as Operations Officer in Coastal Divi- sion 14 in South Vietnam. He received the Bronze Star Medal with for combat during this tour. Other sea billets to which CA RI' Amerault has been assigned include: Iingiiieering Officer of the destrovers USS TAYLOR QDD 4683 and USS BENNER QDD 8073, and Executive Officer of the destrover USS DUPONT IDD 9413 and the destroyer tender USS SIERRA QAD I83. In March IQ84 he assumed dutv as the commissioning Commanding Officer of USS NICHOLAS QFFG 473. L'n- der CARI' Amerault's command, USS NICHOLAS was awarded two consecutive Battle Ffliciencv .-Xwxirtls as hest ship in her class in Destroyer Squadron ti, and the .-Xtlantic Fleet Colden Anchor Award for best retention among all ships of its comparative size in the Atlantic Fleet. In addition to the zihove billets, he has also served as Staff Combat Information Center Officer for Command- er. Cruiser Destroyer Croup 2, and as Deputv Director and then Acting Director, Program Resource Appraisal Divi- sion in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations lOP- 8l3. CAPT Ainerault assumed command of USS SAM- UEL GOMPERS QAD 373 on 1-I Nlulv 1989. CARI' Amerault is a graduate ofthe L'.S. Naval Post- graduate School with the degree of Master of Science in Operations Research, and of the L'niversitv of L'tah with the degree of Master of Arts in Middle East Studies and Arabic. He was a 1986-87 Federal Executive Fellow at the Rand Corporation. He wears the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star vvzY QV to denote Valor3, the Meritorious Service Medal ftwo awards3,joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Com- mendation Medal tthree awards3, and other campaign and Vietnam service medals. CAPT Amerault and his wife, Cathy, the former Cathryn A. Corwin of Richmond, Virginia, reside in Ala- meda, California, with their children Clay, Clark, Alan, and Lindsay. Commanding Officer 7

Iverson ..Nvy LCDR Iverson graduated from the U.S. Naval Acad- emy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Opera- tions Analysis and was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy on Qjuly 1976. After receiving his commission, LCDR Iverson served at sea aboard USS SAN JOSE CAFS 71 as Damage Control Assistant and Navigator. His other sea duty billets have included: Operations Officer ofthe frigate USS HEPBURN IFF 10555, Combat Information Officer and Assistant Operations Ofhcer of the guided missile cruiser USS LEAHY LCG 165. LCDR Iverson has also served as Staff Operations and Plans Officer for First Canadian Destroyer Squadron in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as a member of the Personnel Ex- change Programg and as Staff Operations and Plans Offi- cer for Combat Logistic Squadron 2 Headquarters with significant underway experience with the 2nd Fleet Staff as Fleet and Battle Force Logistics Coordinator Planning Officer. LCDR Iverson wears the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Battle Efficiency Ribbon ftwo awardsj, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Rib- bon fthree awardsl, National Defense Medal, and Foreign Service Ribbon Qtwo awardsi. LCDR Iverson assumed duties as Executive Officer aboard USS SAMUEL GOMPERS in May 1990. He is married to the former Michelle Dunne of Chicago, Ill. They have two daughters and one son.
